I know what you're saying, that 58 as the old record lasted 127 years, but 62 in regulation on TTUN is the new record, so there was no "last time someone scored that many points on them".

Start with looking at the two different offenses they faced.

Maryland, like Purdue, had a scheme that naturally exploited this years defensive weaknesses. Ruthlessly exploited them.

Tsun, otoh, seemed to think the best plan was to try and exploit the one thing the '18 OSU defense is pretty good at stopping.

After that look at the focus. No one can be up like that 12 times a year. OSU got up for TCU, they got up for PSU then they exploded on tsun.

I hear you, but Michigan clocked both Purdue and Maryland. It was obvious that they had more talent than both of those teams. OTH, seems to support the arguments Valenti makes about Harbaugh - he's relied on his defense and insisted on pound the ball for offense.

all about matchups

tsun had a much more experienced defense than OSU did during the season so it doesn't really shock me that they played better vs Purdue and Maryland. Plus their offensive style kept those opposing offenses off the field moreso than the OSU offense did or will ever do.

It's why the transitive thing never really works in football. Each game is different, each team matches up differently and teams performances are not static. It's a bunch of college aged kids, they are going to be schizo by nature.
