Game Thread THE GAME: Ohio State 14, TSUN 3 (final)

One other factor often discussed this week is the realtive health of each squad. If Henne was pulled so quickly agaisnt the Badgers that speaks volumes about the severity of his dicky shoulder - a pretty important injury for a QB. If Henne shows any signs of not being able to give his full arc or zip on throws then TSUN must turn to Mallett - not a great prospect for them. Hart being back there to carry the rock for TSUN means a great deal. But, is he really anything like 100%, 90%, or 80%? Give that gabby guy his due, he would probably come out and play tough at any level of pain for this game - though is that the best thing for TSUN?

Key #1 to me.

I know I'm repeating myself but that was NOT a scheduled ending to Henne's day. He made that shoulder worse, he was on the sideline getting medical attention and still trying to throw. No way was that a scheduled "play 2 series and call it a day" situation imo.

Also, again being repetative, in that situation if you run Henne out there without Hart it can only mean Hart wasn't cleared to play. Put yourself in Carr's shoes(then go take a shower) why risk further injury to Henne and not Hart? At this point in the season its clear they are equally important to your chances of winning. Simple answer is they were trying their best to beat UW and Hart couldn't go. If a guy has missed the better part of a month from a high ankle sprain and stil can't go a week before the last game that tells me he is nowhere near 100% and its not a case of Hart at 80% being better than another guy at 100%.

A more straight forward approach, pro-style play from TSUN on Offense. Balanced play from the Buckeyes when they have the ball.

Key #2 to me. Illinois threw us a changeup after 3 straight weeks of a more traditional offensive look. We swung and missed but now we know a fastball is coming. My only concern is their zone blocking scheme combined with our lack of stud DT play and poor tackling propensities. Hopefully those are out of our system.

I like our chances (suprise, surprise).

Agreed. If they beat us with Mallet, Brown and Minor playing significant roles, then it just wasn't meant to be.

Wolverines' Hart wanted another shot at Buckeyes; now he'll get it

COLUMBUS ? Michigan's Mike Hart was adamant about wanting another shot at Ohio State after last year's three-point loss. And while it's coming months later than Hart would have preferred, the Buckeyes are happy to oblige.
The brash all-Big Ten running back was calling for a rematch in the national championship game after the teams staged an epic November battle in Columbus, the No. 1 Buckeyes beating the No. 2 Wolverines, 42-39.

Its a 15 yard penalty to hit players on the sideline

I think it's more like this: Henne was going to be allowed to go but only until the slightest possible notion that he might conceivably have perhaps maybe re-injured the shoulder. Any question, pull him. I really don't think anything happened to Henne's shoulder at all on that throw, it's just that the INT was Carr's excuse. Oh look, your shoulder isn't 100%, time to come out. No, it wasn't scheduled, but it wasn't exactly unscripted either.

If that was Ohio State and not Wisconsin, Henne stays in.

I think both of us have a lot of "what we want to believe" thrown into these opinions - after all, if Lloyd Carr is ever known for anything it will not be transparency regarding injury reports. He takes "it's not our policy to discuss player injuries" to a whole new level. But mark my words - Henne and Hart will both play. "Can't go" against Wisconsin with very little on the line isn't the same as "can't go" against Ohio State with the whole enchilada at stake.

I could buy that if he wasn't getting so much medical attention on the sideline and still trying to throw to see how it felt. Why do that if Carr tells you you're done for the day?

Thats what I'm hoping for to tell the truth. Hero syndrome when you are far less than fully capable helps the other team more than your own.

I never said they wouldn't. My point is that there is no way they will be anywhere near 100%.

We'll never know for sure but regardless of opponent there is a point when the medical staff simply says "no". I have enough respect for Carr that if this were indeed the case(I agree its probably not but its possibel) he wouldn't endanger a young mans future health.

The one question mark for the Buckeyes which does need answered is how mentally clear is Todd Boeckman after last week? Can he rebound well, learn from those mistakes and not repeat them. Force nothing, take what the defence gives you.

I am not that worried about this. Look I think Todd has done a great job this year and has far exceeded the expectations for him. Like most young players though (young meaning first year starter in this case) he tries to force things. He did it early in the year, contiued to do it a bit and got away with it in the middle and now last week it came back to bite him again. I honestly don't think it is going to bother him like that but I think he has the potential to do it again. I don't 100% trust him yet. I doubt he has changed much in one week but it is possible and he may end up having a great game.

Well, as we saw with Hart, Carr telling them they're done for the day doesn't mean they believe it. Hart was shown a couple times during the UW game lobbying to come in. I'll offer up that Henne was throwing and consulting with staff to try and prove he could play, rather than find out if he could.

I know for a fact they won't be 100%. They haven't been all year, won't start now. What I believe is that, as shown by the MSU game where Henne delivered some pinpoint throws in the clutch (like the Mathews touchdown) with Spartan linemen in his face, is that it won't matter. I don't think they're to the point where they're going to be a detriment by playing, and I have faith in the coaching staff recognizing that point if it comes.
