Xbox one looks stronger out of the gate. Titanfall looks awesome and that Quantum break intrigues me but I definitely thought that I missed out on some strong PS4 titles last gen...can't think of one 360 exclusive I owned sans Halo 3

Unless he already has one, a PS3 or an Xbox 360 might be a better gift for him. There are a lot more games for them, and they are more cost effective.

If you are dead set on getting a current-gen console (boy it feels weird calling them "current gen"), XBone is pretty good, but $500 is a pretty hefty price to pay for something where you have only a couple of few good to great games (I am talking about AC Black Flag and Forza Motorsport 5). I am sure there are a few other games that BN24 will point towards, but those are the only 2 that I honestly care about. Good luck with finding one though. I think amazon might be helpful about that.

Ok full disclosure. "He" currently has a 360 elite. "He" really wants the XBox1.
And by "He", I mean I want one. He does too, but no way in hell would I be spending $500 plus tax on a single Xmas gift. :lol:

Basically, he really wants one. I really would like to get it for "him". I have xmas gift money put back, but not enough to buy one of these plus gifts for my daughter and her mother. So if we decide to get one, it will be on a family members toys r us credit card and we'll pay off the balance with our tax refund. So I don't really have the Amazon option. If they're flying off the shelves at retailers faster than they're being restocked, I can wait til March (tax refund).

But Im about to start a new job, it's 3rd ahift. My woman works first shift and is a full time student. I'm going to be sleeping very little for what looks like a looong time.I'm gonna need something to keep me from passing out while my daughter is awake. In the summer, not a problem. But I'll be damned if I'm going to watch preschool cartoons and stay awake. :lol:

On top of that, there are other factors you might consider. The initial problems which are always available during launch are going to be ironed out soon, hopefully as early as March. More exclusives and non-exclusives will hit during that time as well, making the console more attractive. Just to name a few.

Now I am going to play a free game, Path of Exile, after 4 years. Adios amigo!

There were several DLC car packs in Forza 4, on top of the already impressive lineup. Only 2 or 3 were actually worth downloading.

They also had the Top Gear test track AND a soccer arena for 4 on 4 car soccer. Would love if they brought it back. It was so much fun.

So after all of the PR disaster that plagued XB1, I purchased a PS4 and am happy with that decision. But, I still went out and bought an XB1 on Black Friday (hey, it also served as a pick-me-up after the Steelers game). So I made M$ wait an entire week for my money! I really showed them!!!!1!eleventy1!!1!

Now I have to wait until Xmas for the kids to open it. My non-technically-inclined brother bought one too, so he wants me to set it up for him. So I'll at least get to check it out a little bit before Xmas.

So I’ve had my Xbox One for about a week and have put a good 10-15 hours into it over that time. High level summary: it has the potential to be an amazing gaming/multimedia system but still needs some tweaks and more games.

What I love most so far is to instantly switch between TV, gaming and any of the apps. It’s great pausing a game, then instantly snapping to TV to check on a sports score. I think I’ll use the Xbox One much more than my 360 for this reason alone. But their apps are still sparse and hopefully come out with more in the coming months.

Kinect’s visual recognition and voice control are very good. It will quickly recognize me and log me in when I enter the room and rarely do I have any problems with it not understanding what I’m saying. But there’s a bit of a learning curve to know what words it recognizes and what it doesn’t. It also works well as a universal remote which allows me to change channels on my DirecTV receiver, adjust volume, etc. by just using voice commands. However that’s more of a gimmick and it’s still quicker to use the remote.

Watched a couple of movies on Blu-Ray and it booted up quicker than my old Blu-Ray player. Looked the same otherwise.

As for gaming, I’ve only tried out Battlefield 4. Graphics are maybe a bit better than a 360 game but what I like most is 64 player online games. Complete chaos reigning down all around you and you’re never far from action like on some of the larger maps on BF3 with 32 player limits. I have had some lag issues in some online games and the game has crashed a few times which is totally unacceptable, but I think that may be more related to Dice/EA’s servers and publishing the game before it’s fully tested than the Xbox One.

One quirk I’ve found is that the Kinect sensor is a bit too sensitive and can pick up hand gestures in general conversation and thinks that you’re trying to access the menu in the middle of watching TV or a movie. It doesn’t happen often but is annoying when it does, especially since there doesn’t seem to be much consistency on what sets it off and what doesn’t. Hopefully this will be fixed with a software upgrade in the future.

With the Shooter game that you were playing, how does the trigger feedback system feel? This might not have been included in BF4 so you may not be able to answer.

I agree with a lot you said. I haven't gotten to play online much so I wouldn't be able to comment on anything in that area. Haven't tried the blu ray yet

I like the feel of the controller a lot. the trigger feedback is great in Forza

I like the controller overall (not that the 360 needed to be fixed). The D-Pad is better but I don't like the bumpers as much, but it's not that big of a deal. I don't think BF4 is using the trigger feedback or at least I can't tell much of a difference. I do like the feel of the guns though in that game and they've done a great job with the sound effects. It's awesome to hear a gun fight echoing in the distance, the crack of a sniper bullet and the rumble of bombs falling.
