Tim Beck (HC Coastal Carolina)

It's like I said earlier...yeah, Beck can recruit, but that means dog[Mark May] when he's torpedoing those same players on the field. If Beck's coaching and involvement in the offense can damage two Urban Meyer teams, what do you think he can do to Tom Herman's?

I'm very confused by it. I get bringing him in as a recruiter, but everything being reported is that he is going to implement Herman's offense, coach qbs, and call the plays. Essentially the same role he was brought in for here and failed MISERABLY at. Maybe it's all just a public knob job and he won't actually taint their offense by being involved in it, but why say he is? He's coming off a very public failure...it's not like you're pissing anybody off by just hiring him as a recruiting coordinator or some similar position. This guy must be able to sell ice to an Eskimo. He hoodwinked Meyer into hiring him, now Herman. Guess we'all see how involved he is in about nine months.
Its pretty clear... if we had Urban from Florida Beck would still have a job... but since we have Urban who decided that there is life outside of football and went hands off the Warriner/Beck experiment was a miserable failure.

Herman hasn't had a stress induced hospitalization to maybe make him say "I need to take care of myself". Herman is running the offense and serving has HC, Beck is a figure head. That might work at Houston where expectations were high but manageable. At Tejas the expectations are NC's every year.... lets see how this works out.

OR if you believe other folks who probably ignore his OC time at Nebraska (scout article in the Shaggy thread)... Urban didn't play fair and give him the keys to the Ferrari and say its yours... he said you have to share it with me and Ed.

I perused the Shag on Beck. I fully expected the tejas arrogance to take over and proclaim that any shortcomings Beck had at Ohio State were all the fault of Ohio State and at TEXAS! with TEXAS! recruits he'd become the second coming of Bill Walsh. I was mistaken. The attitude runs the gamut from disappointed to I'll put my faith in Herman that he knows what he's doing.

Kind of like our thread on him here.

Mensa on the defensive.

In his defense, he might not exactly have the pulse of Buckeye Nation since landing his new gig. He may very well be surprised by the backlash. But, to act like play calling is the only criticism he's received is a little blind.

As for "Urban's endorsement", of course he put in a good word for him.
