Game Thread Toledo at tOSU, Sept. 10, Noon ET, BTN

To put it statistically:

The MAC, more than any other conference, underperforms Differential Statistical Analysis (DSA) during bowl season.

As many of you know, DSA is a way of using stats to predict the outcomes of games. In conference, late in the season, it is pretty good. For bowl season, between conferences of comparable strength, it is pretty good.

However, because DSA compares you to your opponents' opponents; it is heavily dependent on conference strength. Combine that little factoid with the fact that the MAC is the only conference to have underperformed the DSA prediction for every bowl game they've participated in over the last 10 years. What do you get? That's right: The B1G's Little Sister.

Huh?

Anyway, the line in today's paper was only 18, even if OSU just covers, that's a real football game.

This is my point. If both teams play their A game it is a 21-28 point OSU win. If they play bad it's a 40 point win and if OSU plays bad with Toledo playing A ball it could be a toss up. Not likely. But plausible.

If our defense gives up 21 points on our A Game, we are in for a whole world of hurt come Big10 play.

I'm glad that the team is taking a serious approach to the game, because it sounds like a lot of you guys aren't.

We've pulled out some squeekers early in the year against MAC competition FAR worse than what we'll face on Saturday. We were blessed to squeek by in those games. Other schools haven't been so lucky. For instance, I was part of the storming of the field when Toledo beat Larry Fitzgerald and #9 Pittsburgh in the Glass Bowl a number of years ago mid-season. Don't forget where we are right now and where we've come from over the offseason. Don't act like Toledo doesn't have a prayer, because this could be a trap game with Miami coming and we're still figuring out what we have after our beat down of a smouldering turd last week.

Ohio State ought to win and definetly has more talent... there's no denying that, but our reputation isn't going to win this game on its own. Come with an informed opinion and keep the chest thumping to yourselves.

We beat Toledo 38-0 two years ago on a "neutral" field...Toledo was 5-7 that year. Toledo was somewhat improved last year, but still was only an 8-5 team and was ape-fucked by Arizona and Boise State by 39 and 43 points respectively. They also lost to 6-6 Florida International in their bowl game. They are not a good football team. There's no real reason why we shouldn't beat them in the manner we just beat Akron.

This thread is fucking depressing. I'm gonna start re-reading the Yahoo thread for fun if this is what the game threads are going to be like.

I guess some of you will be taking Toledo and the points for this Saturday's vBet. You'll need as many of those points as you can get since Toledo has never scored any of their own against Ohio State.

I never realized that the purpose of the game threads was to talk about how bad we are going to kill our opponent. What's wrong with people saying "let's not get too cocky, you never know"? As I said earlier, I fully expect Ohio State to kick Toledo's ass. I was in the Shoe in 2004 when we expected a much better Buckeye team to do the same against Marshall...... Obviously that game did not go as expected. After that game, I always have respected the MAC in early season contests.

Personally if all of the game threads are just chest thumping and talking about how bad ESPN sucks, Herbie is a traitor, ect. then I'm not interested..... But, I've been around for a long time and know what this site stands for.......and I know that it welcomes contrasting viewpoints. If not, it simply is another Yahoo board full of venom and blind homers.

I'd like to think the early-season 2004 OSU team was not nearly as good as this year's early-season team. Keep in mind how Iowa stomped a mudhole in us that year. Still, you have a point that we shouldn't totally overlook anyone, especially an in-state team with nothing to lose. If there is a "trap" game on the schedule, this is it. That said, I expect a clown-stomping...

I agree on all points Mil. I guess I draw similarities to 2004 due to inexperience at QB. Our kicking game was much better back then though.....

I too expect a beat down, but I certainly would not be surprised to see it interesting for a short while in the second half.

At least Bauserman played a great opening game, while I don't think Zwick had a great 2004 opener against Cincy...that's probably why I don't really draw a parallel between the 2004 Marshall game and the Toledo game, other than they both are the second game of their respecitve season.

While Zwick did hit a couple long TDs to Santonio Holmes early in the Marshall game, it seemed from that point on he was somewhat shakey. Hopefully Bauserman will continue the same play he displayed against Akron...if so, Toledo can bring their AAA+ game and still not stand a chance.
