Game Thread tOSU 21, TSUN 10 (Nov 21, Noon ET, ABC)

Couple of months late to the party but this one jumped out at me.

In 2008 it was the veteran Michigan D that let the team down in their biggest games.

2008 scUM offensive rankings
Rushing O: 59
Scoring O: 99
Passing O:108
Total O:109
Pass Eff:112
Turnover Margin: 104

2008 scUM defensive rankings
Rush D:50
Pass D:87
Total D:67

So in retrospect it wasn't the turn over prone one dimensional offense that could only generate 290 total yds and 20 points per game? The real problem was with the defense that gave up 366 yds and 29 points per game despite being on the field all day every game? Brilliant!

Uummm Beav, I'm much more than 50.01% certain your problems in 2008 weren't primarily on the defensive side of the ball.

It's a team game, the blame goes to the whole team and the coaching staff. Alot players checked out after the ND game!

Michigan in the shitter for at least one more year, Michigan State loses Jevon Ringer and their QB and Purdue is breaking in a new coach. Weiss is looking very fat by week 5 in his season. Spare me, oh Lord, for there will be those clamoring for the Irish to be in the top 5 by then...

Michigan in the shitter for at least one more year,
Beating a more respected UM program didn't change their ranking or Weis' hotseat last year. This will be even more true this year with UM coming off a 9 loss season including Toledo

The last decade and a half called, they'd like to remind you how bad some of those spartan victors were
and their QB and Purdue is breaking in a new coach.

The Spartans gradumuated their QB and Tiller is gone at Purdue. Don't look for either to beat ND.:(

Your insider was the one laying it at the feet of the defense. I was simply pointing out that if forced to choose one side or the other to lay blame on, it sure as hell wouldn't be the defense.

The D was mediocre, the O was a fucking joke and the guru wants to blame the D. Something wrong with that logic if you ask me but then again most scUM fans are still trying to convince themselves all is ok up there so flawed logic isn't something to be suprised by I guess.

The blame doesn't go to the defense. Michigan hung with several teams including Penn St. and Ohio St. for the first half. The second half was a different story in almost every game Michigan played. The defense just got worn out because they weren't deep and the starting front 7 couldn't do it all. I thought the starting front seven played well for the year.

If there is any blame to go around, it should go to the secondary. They couldn't cover, tackle, or do anything. Sometimes I wonder if they even wanted to be there.

Oh well the football team will probably suck again this year but at least Michigan basketball is getting interesting again!!

Brandon Harrison, like many um safeties before him, was the reason osu broke such long runs. brown didn't have a great day either, after the first series.

The defense was not the most at fault, but they certainly were pretty poor down the stretch despite all of the barwissing, which now is said to take 2 years to have an impact. Such talk did not surface until year 1 yielded the same poor tackling, pursuit angles, and defensive woes against the spread. (the real problems with their past defenses)

We really have no idea what to expect at this point. The depth is razor thin at many positions, a substantial chunk of the defense is very inexperienced, and Stevie Brown remains one of UM's top defenders. Emilien, herron, van bergen, Fitzgerald, woolfolk, Turner will all be thrown into the fire as pups. Cissoko is getting a much larger role, and brown and Martin are getting new positions from last fall (the latter of which was a position switch that concerned Martin when rr was hired after he verballed)
