Game Thread tOSU at NW'ern, Oct 5, 8 ET, ABC/ESPN/ESPN2

Come to think of it, this game reminds me of the '02 NW game in a lot of ways. Both were night games. Our star on offense had three lost fumbles (MoC) and NW had chances to really put us on our heals but couldn't capitalize.

Main difference was the redzone defense. Our three man rush in the redzone is really killing our redzone defense this year.

I must say guys - that game last night was fairly exciting. It also showed that your guys can step up through adversity if they need to. Brax also looked good running the ball - reminding people who in the hell he is. Hyde, though. That dude was a beast last night.

1. I expected a shoot out. NW's offense can score some points on anyone, and I went to the stadium to expecting them to score at least 20. What I didn't expect was a slug fest.

In games against NW, you expect them to come out hopped up, play crazy ball for a quarter or two, and then become punch drunk.

That didn't happen. NW kept throwing punches until the very end of the game. That Carlos was still standing in the final 5 minutes was a testament to his own will because he took a real beating to gain those 160 some yards.

2. The field was wet from one hell of a storm (lots of sections of Evanston were without lights as we made our way to the stadium) just an hour and half before the game started and the night was warm and humid. That may explain why the dbs played off the receivers, though that doesn't explain last week when they played off the Wisconsin receivers. Funny, NWs DBS played a very aggressive, in-your-face defense, and mostly got away with it.

3. One thing is sure, Fitzgerald has instilled pride and determination in his team. They do not back down and they do not give up. they are a very good football team. I would not expect an OSU/NW CCG to be much different than last night.

I was yelling for Cardale to run because of his size to push piles while Hyde got to rest. This is really where we missed Hall as he could have given Hyde a break.

Cardale Jones was never going to be used in that situation. Meyer wouldn't trust him in that situation and I doubt they would have planned for that kind of move so it's kind of unfair to put on a freshman third-stringer too.

Speaking of Coach not trusting players with the ball, I think we saw in this game just who is trusted to tote the rock when the chips are down. We didn't see Dontre Wilson at all. We saw Rod Smith a couple times when Hyde was gassed, and even though you'd think that Smith's attributes would make him nearly as effective as Hyde they didn't give him many touches in those situations. These are players that us fans have high expectations for, but they are still a true freshman and a backup whose record of turning the ball over has outweighed his production, respectively.

For the record, I think going away from the RBs they way they did was an error. You can see Coach Meyer's thinking though.

Outside of the last two series was Colter (sp?) in at QB for NW the 2nd half.. it seemed like they completely abandoned what worked for them in the first half.. I know we made adjustments but I just remember Sieman (sp?) being in there all night the 2nd half.

I really don't think Urban likes fumbles at all...by anybody.

At the 2:42 mark I think he notices that they were 2 fumbles not interceptions.

You're thinking of the 07 game i think, when Byrum made a field goal at the end and ran around doing the gator chomp .

The 06 Aubie UF game ended just like saturdays game with a fumble recovery for a td on the last play to take a 4 point lead to 10
