tOSU at Rutgers, Oct 2nd, 3:30 ET on BTN

This will be a nervy game. Rutgers is a good defensive team who can create sacks and turnovers. We will score on them but we have to be efficient and mostly mistake free.

Their offense isn’t special by any means but they don’t need to be to score on our defense. Unless we are able to get off the field on 3rd downs, this one could very possibly come down to the last possession.

We have just got to keep them out of the endzone... that's what ttun did and it won them the game because overall Rutgers out played them.

I will go on record that I was wrong about the Oregon game. Oregon is a better team and very well coached. They exposed a lot of issues. We’ve seen some progress with this team since but this roster of baby bucks is likely a killer 2022 team - not a 2021 playoff team.

I expect we’ll win against Rutgers but wouldn’t at all be surprised if it’s tight to the end. I’m hoping for a fast start and we focus on our run game (clearly a strength) to take pressure off whomever starts at QB. Would also like to see more RPO and less passing on 1st downs to have less 3rd and long pressure situations. Looking forward to seeing how we match up against Rutgers after they played scUM to the wire. I’ll be thrilled with another beat down of scUM and to see this team continue to improve, loosen up and have fun. Way too tight right now. A 5th straight B1G would be an excellent hold for a bit of a rebuild year and setup this program for a potential Champ run in 22.

What’s Going To Happen
Lost in the narrative of Ohio State struggling on defense and being relatively down compared to the last few years is one way key element …

The offense is TOTALLY working. Ohio State is second in the nation in total O averaging way over 500 yards per game.

Yeah, Stroud missed some receivers here and there in the first few games, and he wasn’t razor-sharp for stretches against Oregon, and the offensive line isn’t consistent and the team is steady pumping out tons and tons of yards.

Before you blow that off in any way, ask Clemson what it’s like to reload the offense. Check with Oklahoma to see how that thing is working. With that said, be very, very careful here.

Rutgers doesn’t have enough in the bag to win unless there’s a total Buckeye meltdown. There have to be at least four Scarlet Knight takeaways, the red zone D has to be air tight, and everything has to go right when it comes to ball control.

That’s all not going to happen, but a 21-point Ohio State second half explosion will to finally be able to breathe easier.

Ohio State vs Rutgers Prediction, Line
Ohio State 34, Rutgers 17
