2021 tOSU Recruiting Discussion

With some recent commitments and updates, time for me to give my updated 2021 way too early best guess on this class with thoughts on each prospect:

QB: Kyle McCord (one of the top 3 QBs in this class imo, huge to have him on board so soon and enrolling early)
RB: Corey Kiner (improving relationship and I think we seal the deal here)
RB: Evan Pryor (could also put Shipley here, although I am not incredibly confident we land either...Donovan Edwards is a possibility too..just know we need 2 RBs in this class, although landing Gibbs in 2020 would possibly mean we only need 1)
WR: Marvin Harrison Jr. (I think Marvin is a 5* all the way...ranked around top 50 and that is high, but I think he is better than his current ranking)
WR: Jaylen Ballard (huge talent and the best WR in the state, glad to have him in early)

WR: Emeka Egbuka (confidence level is actually pretty high here, particularly with the relationship with the Scotts...personally I think he is the top WR in the country for 2021)
WR: Beaux Collins (not as confident on Collins as I am Egbuka, but I do think we lead and are in great shape...I think there is a ways to go, but couldn't be in much better shape imo...if we do land him, for sure a 5* talent and would give us yet another ridiculous WR class)
WR: Troy Stellato (5 WRs is a lot, but I think Stellato is absolutely a take by the staff and we are in the lead...criminally underrated nationally, but I think that will change soon)

TE: Sam Hart (I like what Sam brings to the table and fits well here...my guess would be we settle with just 1 TE, but could look at adding another)
OL: Ben Christman (one of the best tackles and OL prospects in the country...glad we locked him down early, special powers alert)
OL: Donovan Jackson (again, one of the best OL prospects in the country and an enormous get...huge wingspan that makes him about 6'6-6'7 and with his feet and athleticism, good see him at tackle or guard, love the versatility)

OL: Jager Burton (think we lead considerably and I love Burton's potential on the interior OL...think he hops in this class sooner rather than later...would form quite the nucleus of a great OL class going with Christman and Jackson)
OL: JC Latham (like Burton, I think we have a substantial lead here...one of the better OT prospects in the nation and would be a huge commit...again, I think this is an if and not when situation)

DE: Jack Sawyer (easily a top 10 player in the nation and will continue the DE dynasty here)
DE: Tunmise Adeyele (a slight longshot, but I think there is some chance...see my comments below on the DE position)
DE: Monkell Goodwine (excellent prospect and I think we land him if we want him, he is a take unless Foreman and/or Landon Jackson commit soon...huge ceiling and lots of potential)
DT: J.T. Tuimoloau (I really think we are in a great spot here and could land the top DT in the country...maybe I am dreaming, but we can hit a homerun here)
DT: Damon Payne (I think we're in a great spot here and might land a commitment before the season...enormous talent and would be a huge steal from the state up north)
DT: Michael Hall Jr. (very high on Hall and he just got a huge bump on Rivals, likely will soon on 247...get him signed up asap...we will take 3 DTs if its the 3 I listed)

LB: Reid Carrico (absolute stud and will be a killer LB for us...he is going to be a fan favorite in Columbus)
LB: Demeioun Robinson (might end up at DE and not sure of our chance here...but like the last couple years, very few apparent targets at the position)
DB: Jaylen Johnson (brusier safety that I love landing in this class...might end up at LB or bullet, but I love his game)
DB: Tony Grimes (I really love where we are at here and I think we lead by a ton...5* and one of the best...the success at DB and top draft picks will go a long way...if/when Coombs is on board, I think we close it quickly)
DB: Jakailin Johnson (another that I think is a matter of when, not if...incredible talent)
DB: Jordan Hancock (trending well and I think we can land him if we want him...would round out a great DB class)

- I would note we are probably looking for 5 OL, although I'm not sure who the 5th is...not out on Spindler or Dellinger, but outside the 4 I have above, not sure who else we get. I am comfortable with 4 OL if its the 4 above, and it lets us add another on the DL. At DE, I think it will be wait and see for the most part...Foreman is a real chance and I think Landon Jackson is too...could land either one and then that changes the entire landscape. Armitage is also a real shot. No matter what happens, we will be thrilled with the DE class in 2021. Would like to see us get in on some top LBs soon though.

Nice list. I think Egbuka and Collins might be an either/or, but crazier things have happened. There’s a lot of talent on that list. I expect the DT and OL classes to be top notch, and just based on the names we’re in on at RB we’ve got to land one.

Very well could be, especially with the 4 WRs we got in the last class...not sure we take 5. I am sure the staff would take both and figure it out later, but one of the two might not want to be part of a big WR class like that. But it did seem to work in the 2020 class, so wait and see I suppose.

Would hard for that class not to be #1 in the country.

Crazy enough this isn't out of the realm. The WR room is already off the charts but if Hartline follows 2020 with what you list the room is legendary. If we land this class we will win a national title very very soon.

Love the list, and it’s still super early but feasible. Only disagreements I have are with Pryor, Collins, JT, Grimes and Goodwine. Though I’d like to be wrong on any of them, I just think they’re all uphill battles, but the guys I see replacing them could be every bit as good

I think getting Coach Coombs can help with the DB recruiting. As much as Hafley had his guys and his own success and way of recruiting, Coombs also has had his way and also had a lot of success, not just in college but he’s showing now in the NFL. Like I said before, in real time Coombs is showing DB recruits how great of a coach that he is. Guiding a 9-7 team to post season wins over the greatest QB every and the most dangerous dual threat QB in the NFL.

It seems likely that one of these two scenarios plays out:

Donovan Edwards commits to Ohio State :: Corey Kiner commits to Michigan

Donovan Edwards commits to Michigan :: Corey Kiner commits to Ohio State

with the possibility of swapping who commits first in either case.

They both have split crystal ball predictions right now with Michigan having a higher percentage for both, but it seems highly unlikely they land both, assuming they are even the school pushing the recruitment for either.

Birm is on record saying Edwards is #1 on the OSU board, and it would be quite the unique scenario, and the preferred one based on Birm’s reporting, for OSU to land the #1 RB in Michigan while UM lands the #1 RB in Ohio.

And if flipped, it still makes perfect sense and results in a good outcome for OSU.

This is again assuming Michigan isn’t capable of landing them both, which as recruiting assumptions go, is about as solid as they get.

Someone should get in Kiner’s ear about the virtues of ND for an even more desirable outcome.

Final note, unleashing Kerry Coombs back into Michigan can’t hurt with the pursuit of Edwards.
