2023 tOSU Recruiting Discussion

I have been a tad negligent in posting my class prediction for awhile and this may be pretty much an update on who is committed to us now along with my comments peppered in, but here we go:

QB: Austin Novasad (been pretty quiet on this front, but I feel he is the top target and we either take him or no QB in the '23 class unless someone comes out of the woodworks...I am fine with no QB in this class given Radiola in '24, but Novasad is a real talent and we make room for him if he wants in)
RB: Mark Fletcher II (Fletcher could be it at RB for this class, I don't see anyone else on the offer list being a legitimate chance)
WR: Brandon Innis (after the epic run of recruiting for WRs, this class is in the books unless anyone defects for some reason)
WR: Carnell Tate
WR: Noah Rogers
WR: Bryson Rodgers
TE: Ty Lockwood (likely done at TE for this class, Lockwood is an excellent TE who is not wavering and we don't need another)
OL: Luke Montgomery
OL: Josh Padilla
OL: Austin Siereveld

OL: Olaus Alinen (gotta say this is the lowest confidence of any recruit on my list, we need at least one more OL and I don't think this one happens, but I am holding out a little hope and if it doesn't happen, we'll have to find another target...good news is the 3 names above are all studs)
DE/DT: Will Smith Jr
DE: Desmond Umeozulu (starting to trend hard on Desmond and I am incredibly high on his upside, with the size, athleticism and hailing from Maryland, I have trouble not seeing a Chase Young-lite type of prospect here...LJ Sr special coming in here to push us over the top
DT: John Walker (we are starting to look good here, I think we have a slight lead and could see Walker come on board here soon)
DT: Darron Reed (looking really good to land Reed and if we can snag him and Walker, that is a heck of a nice DT class to go with who we got in '22)
LB: Tackett Curtis (I understand UW could be legit competition, but I think we win out on our prize LB recruit for this class...I would think we want 2 LBs in this class but I don't know who else would be a candidate aside from Bowles, who I don't think is likely at all right now)
DB: Kayin Lee
DB: Dijon Johnson
DB: Malik Hartford
DB: Calvin Simpson-Hunt
DB Jermaine Matthews
DB: Cedric Hawkins

DB: Caleb Downs (I know, he probably isn't leaving the south...but I have one of those good old fashioned feelings he ends up a Buckeye...7 DBs would have to be the most we have ever taken I feel like but Downs is a player you take no matter what and there is always a chance someone from the list above doesn't stay committed)

- Obviously the above class would be killer, but I think there needs to be 1 more LB and a fourth OL is not an option, it is a necessity. One guy I was tempted to put on that I think we are gaining some ground on is Uiagalelei, who we would make room for if he wants in...I am just not quite ready to say we are the team to beat and there is a lot of competition there to get his signature....in terms of wish list guys though, he is at the top, absolute beast.

Add Miles Walker to your list.

I don’t think so. Obviously I don’t have any inside info, but I read (a few days before the Wiltfong crystal ball too) that Walker was trending OSU and it would have no impact on Olaus. They would take both. I don’t remember exactly where I read it, or else I would link it.
Just posted the same thing in the new Walker thread

Depth is so thin at OT that we would absolutely take both and I bet we still will look to the portal next year for an OT no matter what. It’s that thin.

I think you can replace Darron Reed with Arvill Reese

As I was posting this the Reed CB's started trending away. Kind of a weird last second change and I did want Reed in the class, but as you said in his thread I don't think it is a huge loss. Will Smith could end up a 3 tech like I see Reed ending up and I like where we stand with Walker at DT. Haven't looked at Reese yet, but Uiagalelei seems like another guy that could end up in the interior, though I like him at DE for now...lots of work to do to get his commitment, but point is there are plenty of options still out there if Reed goes to LSU.

FWIW, a couple Bill Kurelic articles on Ohio State's the 2023 recruiting class:

DL JOHN WALKER

LB TACKETT CURTIS

LB ARVELL REESE

DE DESMOND UMEOZULU

OL MILES WALKER

Breaking down Ohio State 2023 Top Targets by position

QUARTERBACK

The Buckeyes want to sign a quarterback in each recruiting class. They signed great ones in 2021 and 2022 in Kyle McCord and Devin Brown, and have a commitment from a great one for 2024 in Dylan Raiola. There are currently two 2023 Top Target quarterbacks in regards to the Buckeyes, Austin Novosad and Brock Glenn.

Kurelic Thoughts: At this point it remains to be seen if either Novosad or Glenn ends up at Ohio State or if the Buckeyes will need to reset the board again.
