2024 tOSU Recruiting Discussion

https://247sports.com/Player/Ted-Hammond-46132449/

Top 10 247 in OH! Solid motor, strong as an ox and disciplined. He might be more of a tweener in college(too small for DT full time, and too big to stay at DE full time) reminiscent of Jason Moore in 2022. But he’s up to 21 offers after scUM, Oklahoma, and Louisville all offered in the last 3 days

If this class gets to as big as Birm thinks(25-28), then I can see 12-16 of them being from OH, so almost half. And mainly because OH is having a strong class

Per Birm: Visitors for the Iowa bball game on Saturday. Garrett Stover will be there, expecting Samuel Williams-Dixon, Devontae and Deontae Armstrong for sure. Believe Aaron Scott will be there but Bryce West has a track meet.

Would love to see about 12-15 offers to Ohio recruits these next couple of classes. A decent amount of talent but also we seem to be struggling everywhere except WR recruiting right now. Hopefully we can build some depth with some good homegrown talent. I’m sure we will be fine at QB and also RB and DL, however the year to year contracts with Coach Johnson are going to hurt DL recruiting (and have been) until there is some more clarity.

I think the staff is going to want to see the OH kids up close in at camp. But I also would like to see more offers go out, it seems to be a solid year for talent in state for ‘24. Heck, outside of Moore and Seaton, I can see 3-4 more OL sign with OSU(with the St. Eds twins being 2). They could also sign all OH players at RB, CB and TE

Yup, if you’re in state, show up to camp for an offer.

Indeed!
Some names for everyone to be familiar with for OH recruits this summer:
Tayvion Galloway
William Satterwhite
Marc Nave
Teryhon Nichols
Tom Riccard
Jeff Wheelock
Koy Beasley
Reggie Powers
Jake Wheelock
Ted Hammond(scUM commit)

Dont be surprised when some offers go out to these kids when camp season begins

I think we have been caught slow playing kids and need to offer more when watching some film, just my opinion. The talent is there for the top 12-15, I say offer them all.

I think it's that, but also NIL has made it more difficult to pull some of the top OOS recruits. For example, do you pursue a top 10 5star OT from TX, even knowing that his 1st priority is an NIL bag, or do you pursue the 3 or 4star OT from OH that most definitely needs a year or 2 of work and is fine with being a Buckeye and getting their NIL after signing? That strategy change could mean waiting until ESD to hopefully land a big fish, but also being left scrambling at the 11th hour for a much lower replacement

It’s yes and yes. That’s my point. Offer the 12-15 even 20 to Ohio kids. And you then offer everybody else too. For some reason, kids aren’t responding to OSU unless WR and QB right now. Get these kids in imo
It’s not just offering the player, it’s a matter of being willing to accept their commitment. Not putting words in @pnuts34 response, but I believe this is what he’s alluding too. Who’s where on their big board. Definitely a balancing act for the coaches.

If you start offering all of the OH kids(who most have dreamed of playing for OSU), then you better be ready to accept their commitments. Or risk alienating their schools in the future, and word spreading through OH HS coaching circles that OSU coaches renege on their offers. And then you have the rest of the B1G, UC, UK, Louisville, and surrounding states' schools raiding OH for HS talent. A true balancing act indeed. OSU wants OH kids in the class, but it should be closer to 40% of the class and not 80%. As much as we all love Miyan Williams, there's no argument that Henderson has another level of talent for example.

My point is, offer AND accept the top 12-15 kids in these next two classes in the state of Ohio. We don’t have the luxury right now to wait IMO. I understand what offering Ohio kids means, and I stand by my statement.
OSU actually does have the luxury. They're a top 3 team, and were 1 game away from the NC. Let's not act like this is Indiana or Rutgers. OSU isn't desperate, and shouldn't act as such. The kids need to earn their offers, EARN! This isn't the early 2000s with Tressel, and that strategy isn't going to work if OSU wants to actually be elite and a serious NC contender.

Agree to disagree on this. I don’t think offering 15 kids in the top 400 makes us Indiana or Rutgers. I don’t think it needs to be a long term plan, I said for the next year maybe two. I’m fully aware of how recruiting works, and we have very little momentum in the class of 24 right now is my point.
