ttun recruiting (all classes)

Their 2024 class sure has fallen off the deep end considering the quick start and early hype it had.

Recruits have to be seeing the writing on the wall with Harbaugh. They've somehow managed to take 2 years of beating Ohio State, winning B1G titles and making the playoff, and turning it into WORSE recruiting results than pre these past 2 years.

Currently they sit at 12th in the 247 rankings. 18th if you go by average player ranking. Not likely they work back into the top 10 either, they are much more likely to fall out of the top 15 than that. Texas, USC, Miami and probably Clemson, Auburn & Notre Dame as well look primed to pass them at some point once they add more players. Looking like they will finish way closer to #20 than #10

Its also quite surprising with so many national pundits fawning over them as realistic NC contenders. That has quieted a little since last weekends showing against BG, but they're still #2. The fact that they don't even have a top 10 class is kind of mind boggling.

I hate TSUN as much as the next logically intelligent human.
But those skunks have done well in the portal getting vets to fit their system. So while I’d love to take pleasure in their low level recruiting class the truth is they plug and play well out of the portal.
Agree, Hairball & staff have done a great job at hitting the portal. And it also helps having quite the simplistic play scheme. They're a team designed clear out of the 90s. The offense is run heavy, so they can find OL with size who want to road grade, WRs who need to block, but don't need a lot speed. QB and RB are the main recruiting focus out of HS. On defense they use an over powering DL, attacking LBs and they do have some studs at DB. But a lot of the holes on defense can be filled from the portal, and it seems like the staff is fine with that. Getting a 20 or 21yo from say Liberty or Miami(OH) interests that staff more than battling OSU, Bama, Texas, etc for HSers. It's a bold move, especially when you don't have very long with some transfers and some may have already maxed out physically.

The OLine transfer situation this year isn’t quite working out that well so far. There’s a clear drop off from last year. They just haven’t looked that great overall as a unit so far, compared to last year.

Next year, they will most likely have to hit the portal hard for multiple positions. I am not sure there is always the elite talent available, especially at skill positions.

One thing they get that works for them, with getting lower star players, is they stick around for most of their college career, and if some teams, example OSU has a few off recruiting cycles, TTUN has a solid and veteran unit always on the ready that can be dependable.

Both OSU's and TTUN's have flaws, but I think next year will really tell the tale on whether TTUN's plug and play approach is sustainable.

They definitely have faired way better with lower ranked players who strick around 4/5 years than the higher 4* and 5* guys they've gotten.

Problem is that isn't always going to work. Eventually they are going to hit a wall where the 4th/5th year guys aren't as productive as the previous crop.

Next year their big problem is going to be replacing McCarthy, Corum & Edwards if the all decide to leave (likely)

They have nobody at RB outside of those 2 that have shown they are even somewhat capable and QB they are likely going to have to bring a transfer in again because Davis isn't looking like a guy right now who can be relied upon to carry the team his freshman year.
