Beating out Auburn for a recruit may have been impressive 2/3 years ago.

This year currently Auburn has a average player ranking of 87.13, of their 6 current commits only 1 is in the top 300. I can't imagine its going to get much better either.

DFBIA of course will chalk this up as a "impressive get over the SEC" though.
It is quite impressive to get someone to choose that place state over Alabama. I sincerely mean that.

I hope you do realize that star rankings of all years really don't mean shit this year. Half the country didn't play football and there were zero scouting camps up until recently. That's why Michigan is relying so heavily on kids working out on their official visits. So, try to pull back some of the snarky comments until there's actually a real high school football season.

That may be true, but why are so many 3-star prospects working out at Michigan? And why are all the top prospects working out at Ohio State?

BTW, Michigan's latest 3-star commitment drops their average per recruit to 88.77 (Ohio State's average is 94.35).

The way they talk every 3* kid in the country is going to be a 4/5 star "once the high school season gets played"

It also completely ignores that this is basically the exact same level they’ve recruited in recent years under Harbaugh before the ranking may or may not have been thrown out of whack.

Also

Rutgers 88.44
Indiana 88.21

They are much much closer to those 2 than Ohio State.

But those bright young coaches are tearing it up on the recruiting trail!

For the Class of 2022, the 247 Composite has the same number of 5-star, 4-star, and 3-star kids as in any other year. It's not like 247 Composite is giving out a bunch of "Incomplete" grades waiting for the 2021 high school season to play out. During the season, some 3-star kids will rise to 4-star, some 4-star kids will drop to 3-star ... but that happens every single year.

If Michigan fans want to know the truth (they don't), there's a pretty good chance that a lot of their 3-star under-the-radar recruits are actually overrated. Not playing hurts some kids because they can't show their talent ... but it helps other kids because they can hide their lack of talent.

Count me as being happy for them. Bless their hearts.

The difference in scUM and those other schools, is that IU and RU both know their identity. And that's to identify 3star(or lower) talent that wants to bust their butt for the school and willing to develop along with coaches who coach to develop. ScUM on the other hand, goes after 3stars who think that they're rated higher because they commit to scUM. And coaches who act, recruit and coach entitled because they have the block M on their chest. This has been a problem under Hairball, only difference being, is that Don Brown had name recognition, as did the high profile HS coaches they hired. But they never really worked with the same hunger as Urban Meyer run programs. OSU has 4 and 5stars who play with with chip on their shoulder(i.e. Bosa's, Young, Zeke, Samuel, Dobbins, Lattimore, etc). And a mix of 3stars always wanting to prove that they can keep up with their higher rated teammates(i.e. Olave, Landers, Lee, Linsley, Arnette).

DFBIA going out if the way to try to dunk on other schools over the smallest of recruiting “wins” is a nice window on the deeply engrained arrogance that cripples their program regardless of the coaches or players involved.

Auburn thought they had this in the bag coming off their official visitation two weeks ago, when Pollard’s 4-star DE/DT cousin Caden Story said he and Pollard were likely to go to the same school. Pollard’s dad also grew up in Lanett, AL, near Auburn.

Reminder that this is the #551 prospect with offers from basically no other notable team outside of Auburn. When a Florida player doesn’t have a single offer from the big 3 Florida schools it’s clearly a highly coveted player /s.

Dunk away, DFBIA.

This is hilarious, simply because you don't know what you just said.

You mentioned Auburn and their ability to recruit. They aren't "befuddled by star rankings, while only Michigan can really recognize talent", so you say. Interestingly enough....guess who finished second to Michigan in the Micah Pollard commitment? You guessed it....Auburn!

They really wanted him. All you have to do is go to one of their fan pages, and you'll see. That or their recruiting media coverage.

Maybe, just maybe, there might be something to this strange "in person" evaluation method of recruiting players. Maybe....I know it's strange and all.....the coaches know a little bit about football. Maybe they know what they are looking for, and aren't relying on only offering players that recruiting sites make 4-5 star players, EARLY IN THE PROCESS, after not seeing these kids play most or all of their seasons or camps? I know....what a crazy way of thinking that is.

A. They are still under the false impression that Auburn is still some kind of powerhouse.

B. Maybe they aren't "relying" on offering 4/5 star players because they know they arent going to get them?

Also the "trust the coaches" who have never proven anything line of thinking is still hilarious
