like when they give the #1 overall seed the hardest bracket. >,<

Yeah. It's especially cool when your own AD gives you UK, UNC, Kansas, and Duke between the Sweet 16 and the title game. Gene Smith, ladies and gentlemen!

What you did is what the BCS formula used to be until it dared to produce a result that conflicted with the human polls. They then changed it to give the humans more weight.

I think that was in 2004, right after the AP threw a hissy fit and withdrew from the BCS.

The other thing that made people want the computers to have less impact was 2003, when Oklahoma lost the Big XII CCG to Kansas State 35-7, and stayed #1 in most of the computers, allowing them to be #3 in the human polls and still reach the BCS Title game, despite getting waxed in their final outing before the bowl games.

And the fact of the split title in 2003 (LSU-BCS, USC-AP) made people want to give the human polls more weight just to minimize the chances of another split title.

A gripe about the side of a bracket a 1 seed is in, or who got left in or left out is always going to happen. But they do a good job. The problem with the BCS is it doesn't allow for common sense, at all. Computers have no common sense. Whenever the BCS got it wrong, we just changed it so that it would have gotten it right, but by then it's too late. I'm in the boat of wanting a playoff, and hopefully the 4 expands to 8 asap. But in the meantime, when trying to figure out who is best, in my opinion, no computer is going to do it better than people who actually watch the games.

I'm of the opinion that you need both computers and humans.

The humans see things the computers don't (bad refs, weather, injuries, resting starters, etc.) so they absolutely should get a vote.

But the computers aren't awe struck by a team's eleventy-two titles from WWII era, so they should be used to help balance the bias that humans have.

Both humans and computers are deeply flawed.
The combination of the 2 helps minimize those flaws.

Alabama has played an easier schedule than Florida. But Alabama is clearly better than Florida, doesn't matter who they played. If Alabama had only played FBS schools, they still would be better than Florida.
I don't disagree actually.

I THINK Alabama is the better team. And I THINK if they matched up 'Bama would win.

Just pointing out that some people like the polls to reflect the reality of the season up to that point and Florida's undefeated record against the schedule they have faced should definitely have them in the discussion of #1.

Still a month of football left and plenty of time for the poll to change as the season progresses.

especially when the East Coasters don't see that, for instance, Oregon had 329 rushing yards in the first half and was up 43-7 at Arizona State, because they were in bed. all they see is the 43-21 final number when they wake up, and that score is NOT indicative in any way of the total and complete domination by the Ducks. they seriously might have made a bid for 100 points if Chip Kelley wanted to really press the issue. he took his foot off the gas with about 10 minutes left in the second quarter. and all the computers see is the final numbers as well.

so, even the combination of computers and humans STILL might not paint an entirely accurate picture. the Ducks didn't play one starter in the second half. and lost another spot in the poll. HOWEVER, the meat of the Ducks' schedule lies ahead, which is why Chip Kelley said what he said. no sense in getting all worked up in October and then going out and losing your next game. win all your games, THEN bitch if you get left out.

Remember how, in 2002, some of the "humans" thought that it should be a 2 loss USC team playing against Miami, since they were clearly playing the best football at the end of the season?

Forgive me if I am unsold on the polls as the be all-end all. That is what we had before the BCS anyway.

This makes sense.

bowling green = meh (27-14)
texas a&m = decent offense but still overrated (20-17)
tennessee = garbage (37-20)
kentucky = garbage (38-0)
lsu = no offense at all but sick defense (14-6)
vanderbilt = meh (31-17)
south carolina = no lattimore and overrated (44-11)

im sorry but fla is overhyped because they have beaten 3 overhyped sec teams. which in this day and age makes them the bestest evah!1111111111111111

im of the belief that currently the 4 best teams in the country are bama, oregon, k state and notre dame (which will be disposed of by okl sat night)
