UCLA Bruins (official thread)

Stanford and USC are private, and can take whoever they want with relative freedom. WTF is up with Cal?

Hardest public school in the country to get into that also tries to be competitive in the foosball. They aren't going to do it with a team made up of kids with 1355 SATs, anymore than Ohio State is going to do it with a team made up of kids with 1300 SATs.

Probably. I still think the gaps wouldn't change dramatically. Assuming that a portion of the recruiting class is at or above the median, that also means you're going to be taking in a lot of kids with under 900 scores to drag the average down that far, which means that Stanford undoubtedly brings kids in with SAT scores below 1000. Keep that in mind the next time the announcers are circle jerking themselves as to how brilliant the Stanford student-athletes are. It also speaks to how full of [Mark May] and hypocritical Harbaugh was when he attacked Michigan for making academic compromises. If you're a highly selective school trying to run a competitive football program, you're going to be taking kids in that probably shouldn't be anywhere near your university and trying to find a way to keep them eligible. Rosen was right about that.

The other half where he whined and whimpered about how hard it is to play the foosball while going to school was entitled b.s. Tell that to someone who has to work 30 hours a week to get through school or has to spend five or six years in the Army to get some educational benefits.

Can we say "legacy?" Sure we can, legacy.

Yeah, I guess that I was just surprised at the discrepancy between their averages. They aren't very competitive usually though!

Lol Jim Mora out. Nice little run you had there, not.

Chip Kelly?

UCLA is reportedly already in pursuit of Chip Kelly to replace Jim Mora

UCLA is paying Jim Mora a lot of money to not be the Bruins head coach next season and beyond -- about $12 million, according to USA Today's buyout database. To eat that kind of money, especially in the wake of massive facility improvements, implies UCLA is going for broke on a splashy coaching hire.

Per 247Sports' Bruin Report Online, that big name is former Oregon coach Chip Kelly.

UCLA meets with Chip Kelly, who has also spoken to Florida

Chip Kelly met with UCLA officials regarding its vacant head-coaching position in Los Angeles on Tuesday and is expected to decide between Florida and UCLA in the next few days, a source close to Kelly told ESPN's Mark Schlabach.

Former UCLA quarterback Troy Aikman, a member of the school's search committee, is putting a "full-court press" on Kelly to accept the UCLA job, the source said.

.
Kelly was fired from two NFL jobs in the past two years and left Oregon shortly before NCAA sanctions were handed down. Kelly was slapped with "failure to monitor" in the Will Lyles case. Kelly also was handed an 18-month show-cause penalty after he left to become the head coach for the NFL's Philadelphia Eagles.

Oregon was accused of paying $25,000 to Lyles, a 7-on-7 coach, in exchange for him guiding players to the Ducks. The NCAA ruled that Kelly wasn't aware of Lyles' actions, but said he was responsible for ensuring his program was in compliance.

Kelly's show-cause penalty expired in late 2014, meaning he and any school that hires him would face no restrictions or penalties related to the Lyles case.
