UFC 71: Chuck Liddell vs. Quinton Jackson

According to MMAWeekly.com, it looks like Quinton Rampage Jackson wont get a few more tune up fights like he wanted before his highly anticipated showdown with UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Chuck Liddell.

The two are rumored to rematch at UFC 71 on May 26 Memorial Day weekend.
Rampage beat Liddell back in 2003 in a PRIDE event it remains The Icemans only unavenged loss.

bet on Rampage purely because I dislike Chuck, not that I think Quinton will actually win. Chuck hasn't fought in awhile because of the injury, will the ring rust be there? I sure hope so. As for Rampage not getting another tune-up like he wanted that is no surprise. It is no secret that Dana loves Chuck and doesn't want to give Q any advantage. I don't think the deal Q signed is the reason for not having another fight first. Then again that is all speculation......

Yep. Liddell just gassed and Rampage pounded him.

Yeah, that won't happen again. A long time has passed since then and I very much doubt you will see Chuck on his back at any point in that fight, and I seriously question anyones ability to "out strike" Chuck.

Liddell has been quoted as saying that his conditioning wasn't nearly what it should have been for that fight, but Rampage can definitely go toe-to-toe with him as far as striking's concerned. The big thing for Chuck will be to avoid Quinton's slams, and Liddell's defense against takedowns is pretty damn good.

Also, I always like to remember that Dana White is known for protecting his fighters, and he wouldn't have been in a big hurry to make this rematch if he didn't think Chuck would take it. The last thing Dana wants is for his signature champion to get destroyed again, especially by a guy that made his name in PRIDE. In the end I think Chuck gets his revenge, but it should be a good fight.

Should definitely be a great fight, and didn't Chuck want this fight? This is the only loss he has not avenged yet. It was my understanding that Chuck is the one who wanted this fight to happen. I know that Dana is the one who runs the show, but he also respects his marquee fighters wishes (most of the time) and knows that this will be a huge pay day for him.

That's true, Chuck does have a lot of bravado when it comes to calling out fighters. I read an online interview with Liddell a while back on Sherdog and he said he wants his next three fights after Rampage to be against Wanderlei, Cro-Cop (pre Gonzaga ass-whipping), and Fedor. Liddell is at the point in his career where he only wants the fights that will bring the premiere money, and good for him.

Chuck simply wanted out of the Wanderlei fight, then Wanderlei went out and lost and Dana had a reason to call it off.

where did you hear that? do you mean that he didn't even want to fight him in the first place, or do you mean that he would've rather fought Jackson first then Silva?

Chuck by temple implosion in the 3rd...
