  • In case anyone has an interest in collegiate soccer...

University of Akron is ranked #1 in all 5 collegiate rating polls and have been in most polls since day one.
They are 14-0 with 10 shutouts...
They have defeated a number of ranked opponents
including three Big 10 schools... Indiana, OSU and yesterday Michigan

They also landed the #1 rated 2009 recruiting class that are now freshmen with at least 8 Parade All Americans... so the next few years looks just as promising. They lost their All American goalie to graduation and this years goalie is a Freshman. He gets little action because most opponenets get very few shots on goal - phenomenal defense.

Nittany Lions unable to roar against Zips soccer team By Michael Beaven

The University of Akron men's soccer team easily secured its 16th win of the season Wednesday night.
The only question was whether sophomore forward Teal Bunbury would finish with a hat trick.
Bunbury came up just short, but scored two goals in a 3-0 Zips triumph over visiting Penn State at Lee Jackson Field.
The Zips, the No. 1 team in the country in all five national polls, improved their record to 16-0-0. The Nittany Lions dropped to 9-5-2.
...UA shut out its 13th opponent of the season. Freshman goalkeeper David Meves earned his 11th shutout ...
UA has outscored opponents 45-3 this season and has a 4-0 record against Big Ten opponents. The Zips have outscored their four Big Ten foes - Indiana, Ohio State, Michigan and Penn State - 12-1.
The Zips' next game is 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Lee Jackson Field against Michigan State.

    Special to the Beacon Journal

The top-ranked Zips were able to respond to Michigan State's challenge and come away with a 2-1 victory at Lee Jackson Field. Junior Blair Gavin scored a goal off of a penalty kick with 15:24 remaining in the game to break a 1-1 tie and help the Zips keep their perfect season going.

The Zips (17-0-0) are the No. 1 team in the country in all five national polls.

That Spartans (10-5-2) goal was the first the Zips have allowed at home this season.

The Zips held an advantage in shots (16-6), shots on goal (8-2) and corner kicks (3-1).

I don't think your alma mater would like a piece of our Columbus Crew:)
Ahhh.. but you can bet your booty, the Crew would love to have a piece of these fellas... in due time... many of them are gonna be in this tier.. they're just babies now... many freshman and sophs...

Looks like a dynasty in the making.. for at least the next couple years...

You don't go 17-0, #1 in the nation this year and last... and not have a few players MLS wants...
