USC AD, Steve Sarkisian talk

Washington
coach Steve Sarkisian interviewed with USC athletic director Pat Haden this past weekend about the Trojans' head-coach opening, a source told ESPN's Brett McMurphy.

Sarkisian appeared on KJR-Radio in Seattle on Monday and confirmed he spoke to Haden over the weekend, adding he wouldn't describe their discussion as an interview. Sarkisian said USC isn't that far along in the process with him yet.

Boise State's Chris Petersen was a top candidate but has withdrawn from consideration, according to the source who spoke to ESPN's Joe Schad on Monday. USC and Petersen had mutual interest, the source said.

In my IMO, they should go after Vanderbilt's Franklin. He's done an exceptional job at Vandy, is young, energetic, and a good recruiter. Sarkisian has made Washington respectable, but he can't seem to get that program over the hump. While former also-rans like Arizona State, Stanford, and UCLA have passed them by. There should be a stigma around Peterson given how poorly former BSU head coaches and coordinators have performed at major programs. Not one of them have done anything of note.

I like Sark. Dunno if this is good hire or not, but I wouldn't be surprised if this works out well for them. He's not Kiffin.
I think they're remarkably similar in a coaching capacity. Sark seems to lack the personality disorders, but he's only a slightly >.500 coach after six years while other PAC-12 programs of similar stature have passed them by. This is a very uninspired hire and seems like "wash, rinse, repeat" to me. I think they should have gone after Franklin. The man has Vandy on the cusp of back-to-back 9 win seasons. Vanderbilt...think about that...
