Value City Arena (official thread)

Never said OSU girls basketball was boring. Just said that I doubt that no matter how good they are, because it's WOMENS basketball, they won't fill up the schott. That's just because the schott is so damn big, that there's no way it's possible. It's pretty sad for the men too. You can get 11,000 for a men game, and it really doesn't seem like that many people. Get that many people in Dayton's arena, and it's a pretty great sight and makes you want to go back. Same way would be with St. John's. I'd actually go to more bball games if they were at St. Johns.

But I assumed that OSU's girls basketball was #1 in attendence last year...is that wrong?

According to the NCAA site, OSU was 6th in average attendance in the Big Ten last year, and 31st nationally. We went 29-6, won an outright Big Ten title, and drew 700 fewer fans per game than an 11-18 Penn State squad. :(

Okay, that's kind of sad. I didn't know it was so high at other places. I knew about Tennessee and UConn. But it's sad that Penn State, who is more of a football school than any other sport (like us) had higher numbers, even though their team was not as good.

You know, the one thing I've always felt when I go to OSU basketball games is that it's more of a pro atmosphere, not college, and I think it is just because of the way the Schott is built. It's more like it's a social event. Being one spot below Montana isn't good.

It's like the football stadium. If you are sitting in the hunington club seats, it's not near as exciting. The stadium has a college feel. You are sitting on a bench, you are packed in. It's crazy! It's how St. John's is. No leg room. No cup holders. You are there for ONE REASON. To watch the game.

The problem may be that the Schott is too comfortable. Too open. Too big. There are over 1,000,000 people in Columbus, and there is no professional basketball with-in 100 miles of us. You'd think that 1 out of 100 of those people would enjoy getting season tickets to both men's and women's basketball games. That'd be 10,000 people, not including the students. I'm sure the population of whatever city Montana is in, isn't even CLOSE to this big.

I wasn't sure where to post this, and didn't really want to put it in the game thread. All year they have been talking up how small the crowds at the schott has been. Well I went to the game last night as did many people since of course the tickets were buy one get one free. I will tell you right now based on the issues that happened last night I am sure there are lots of first time visitors who will never go back. I got to the corner of kenny and ackerman around 5:30 I finally was in a parking spot at 6:50. Theirwere a few problems as I saw it. The first and main one was that they did not set up cones like the normally do when pulling onto ackerman and into the parking lot at the schott, this meant all the assholes who didn't want to wait in the line would go all the way up on the left hand side and then try to cross three lanes of traffic at the last minute to get in. Then the people directing traffic were doing it half ass, and had many of the parking lots blocked off, but with no signs or people to try to direct you on where to go. I hope if they decide to do a deal to try and sell out the place again, they take the time to have enough workers in the lots to get people in a timely or orderly fashion. I saw and heard allot of pissed off people last night as to how long it was taking people to get into spots

Lots of problems happened last night...

#1 ===== state troopers, OSU PD, leave their positions right at game time...they get paid $70/hour and only work right till game, no matter what is going on with traffic...

#2 obviously the game time was terrible...6:30 means rush hour, means people get off work go home and change, don't have the time to make it back...

#3 snow...so many parking spots were lost last night because of the snow...

Add them all up and you understand...If it causes people to not go back, they have pretty thin skin, because inside the crowd was intense...

Schottenstein Center

hey guys, I'm trying to see how good the tickets I was given are for an upcoming OSU game at Schottenstein. They are in row 131. As I understand, on one side behind the backboard is the student section, which is a flat area, where everyone is on the same height, but one the other side is normal raised seating, which is where I think 131 is? Can someone help me out?
Thanks

Alright, but look at the picture here:
http://www.google.com/imgres?q=scho...tart=0&ndsp=33&ved=1t:429,r:2,s:0&tx=58&ty=63

It seems like on one end, everyone is at the same level, and another its standard stadium seating. The seating section doesn't dictate which one is which. I want to know if 131 is the raised one or the one where everyone is on the same level.

Just realized that picture is from VCA, is schottenstein also like the picture, or is it standard stadium seating on both ends?
