Visiting LSU fans: please read

Let's dispell some myths.

1. LSU will not underestimate your great team. Yes, I said great, noone gets thru a major conference schedule with your record and is not a great team.

2. One of the most surprising things about LSU is not their speed, because they don't try to take advantage of it enough, but it is how physical it is. Expect a smash mouth game. We are not UF and will not try to be like UF.

3. Our offensive line is very good, but its weak link is going against the guy that abused the best LT in college football.

4. We really aren't a gimmicky offense. Yes, we run some of those plays, but we are coached by a former B10 offensive lineman. We will run a lot of up the gut. When you see Trindon play, it is to make you respect the edges. Sets up long passes. The gimmicks also require a lot of time to scout and gamepan for.

5. Defense. Thank God you guys don't run a spread offense. I'm glad Pellini is going, because we actually digressed against it as the season went along and we saw it a lot. He became very tentative. We are very good against pro-style offeneses.

6. Injuries. In the second half against UT, we did not have one DL starter in for the majority of the snaps. We had two Freshmen and two sophomores playing. Dorsey and Favourite were out, but will be back. The one guy that will not be back was the original starting DT, Charles Alexander. Keiland Williams, RB, has a knee injury and his status is unknown. This is our big speed back. Losing him will hurt, if he is gone. However, everyone else should be at full speed for the first time in a long time.

7. Florida. Actually, UF really hurt us this year. That was the most physical game that I have ever seen. It was also emotionally draining. I don't know if we really got over that game and I believe that is why we lost to UK. No excuse for Arkansas. I also think it took a toll on UF.

8. Your linebackers vs our running backs is the key to the game. If you can keep LSU from running, you will win. LSU is not comfortable when it has to pass a lot. This is an intriguing matchup, because of OSU consistent playmaking ability vs LSU's multi-faceted running attack.

9. Expect this game to be in the 20s. I expect a hard fought game. I have not had a chance to look at enough tape of tOSU yet to determine a winner yet, but I can tell you their is a lot of character on both teams. This will be very hard hitting game and the victor will definitely have earned a title.

10. I don't want to hear that these teams don't deserve to be there. Both OSU and LSU have been highly ranked and have had the bullseye on them all year and still persevered. UGA came out of nowhere to finish 3rd in our conference. They don't deserve to be there ahead of us. Kansas definitely could not have handled our schedule if they would have been ranked in the top 5 all year.

11. Respect. I learned this year how much I respect the teams, such as: OSU, USC, OU, etc. that have won despite having the bullseye on their back all year. We had a hard time with it and are very lucky to be sitting where we are. In '03, we snuck up there at the end. It is something that we will need to learn if we want to be in contention year in and year out.

Excellent post.

Ali Highsmith is a stud and I love how he plays sideline to sideline.

Hopefully, there will be some major collisions early with the LSU LBs and that gets those aggressive safeties creeping up...tOSU's playaction game has been a huge part of the offense this year.

Man, I don't think we had this many great posters from Florida (no knock on the quality, just the quantity) in the entire month plus leading up to the game last season, and this is only the first day. I am way, way, way beyond impressed with the crop of LSU posters. Great info and conversation all around!

Welcome Tigers and

Glad to be in the NC game. My neighbor hangs an OSU flag from his garage all season. Going to be an intresting 35 days.

I guess we have the same format at Tiger Forums, but what is up with points and bank?
The points are for vBetting. Soon you will see a whole bunch of bet threads and you'll be able to wager on the games with your points.

Usually you can use them to "buy" stuff like the medallions you might find next to the points. For now, that feature isn't working for some reason so we mostly use it for betting on games! Click on "Bookie" in the red bar at the top of the site to see all the games and other scenarios you can place bets on.

Edit: BKB beat me to it...

Great post 86...great insight for OSU fans that haven't see much of LSU.

Turnovers and field position are going to be a huge part of this game. OSU lost the turnover margin 3-0 against Illinois and got beat. On the other hand, while LSU's defense has given up some points lately, they continue to be opportunisitic, while the offense doesn't give the ball away very often. LSU's defense has forced over twice as many INTs on the year as OSU's, and Boeckman has been prone to throwing picks, especially on deep balls. On the flip side, only Cincinnati had more penalties this year than LSU, whereas OSU was one of the least penalized teams in the country.

Both teams are likely to try and establish the run...LSU ran for aboutr 2,800 years this year and OSU ran for about 2,400 in one less game...so the running games are comparable as far as production. LSU did rack up a ton of rushing TDs this year...5th best in the country behind only Navy, WVU, UCF and Florida.

OSU was the nation's best defense as far as points allowed and pass yards allowed and was third against the run so obviously a low scoring game is probably what they will be looking for. There is no doubt the OSU staff probably does not want to get into a shootout.

As for the battle of field position, one thing LSU does VERY well is punt the football and cover their punts. On the flipside, OSU has struggled with kick returns of every variety this year.

We haven't been great on covering punts. Bama and someone else ran one back for TDs. Kick coverag has been a problem at times. Kick return has gotten mcuh better, because Holliday has started following the wedge. We'll see. Think of a slightly faster (if thats possible) Ginn. What is surprising for a small track guy is that you really have to hit him tackle him.

Thanks for welcoming us. LSU fans get a lot of crap from the rest of the SEC about our fans. When we play teams OOC there is much more respect and less animosity. People in LA are very hospitable and want you to have a good time and spend money in NO. They are hurting there and really need your help.

A lot of people have told you guys where to go, let me tell you where not to go. Please be careful venturing out of the French Quarter other than to go uptown St. Charles street on the trolley. The opposite direction is the Desire street projects and can be hazardous. Do not go into alleys that are not named streets in the quarter. Stay with a group. Take taxis when you do venture out of the Quarter.

Do try the Camelia Grill. The Monteleone is a great hotel. It is older and you really get the "feel" for being in New Orleans. It is on Royal Street.

Ohio State will line up with 5 receivers several times. It usually isn't 5 wide receivers, but tight ends and backs will line up at wide-out positions. It will make it tough for opposing defenses to know it's coming, because the personnel Ohio State has looks like they might line up in an I-formation sometimes. But then they line up with 5 wide-outs, and the defense needs to account for everyone - even the wide fullback or tight end. This often will open a passing lane for Robiskie, Small, or Hartline.

Also, though not nearly as athletic as Troy Smith, Todd Boeckman is much faster than expected. It's been rumored that he's faster (40-time) than Smith was. The Buckeyes don't use him much on running plays, though.

Hello, Buckeyes!

Glad to find this great Buckeye forum and I invite you to join us over at Tigerforums.com.

For the most part, the posters at Tiger Forums are great fans of the game and pretty darn knowledgeable. Most are also a real pleasure to hang with.
But there are a few there (as I imagine there are here) who are just out to stir up gargbage.

Glad to be here. I'm an old Tiger, class of '73, so I've seen a lot of College Football (The GREATEST Sport on EARTH) and I love to talk football, not trash.

Now living in Paducah, KY, but lived in New Orleans from 69 to 83, so let me know if any questions about N.0. just ask. I still visit the city and know a bit about it!

Now, let's go out and have a good, hard-fought CLEAN football game, and let's enjoy the next month looking forward to it!

Thanks for having me!
