Washington's Gilbert Arenas pleads guilty to gun-related charge | The Fabulous Forum | Los Angeles Times

Suspended Washington Wizards standout Gilbert Arenas pleaded guilty to carrying a pistol without a license today as part of of plea deal with prosecutors that could still result in prison time.

Arenas' attorney said prosecutors will seek a sentence on the lower end of the sentencing guidelines. It is estimated that a low-end sentence would be no more than six months.

In a statement read by his attorney, Kenneth Wainstein, Arenas "accepted full responsibility for his actions and acknowledged that those actions were wrong and against the law, and has apologized to all who have been affected by his conduct."

Prosecutors said the charges stem from a confrontation the three-time all-star had with teammate Javaris Crittenton on Dec. 21 in the Wizards' locker room. The confrontation was the result of an argument the two had over a card game two days earlier while flying home from a game in Phoenix.

There have been conflicting reports as to whether Arenas or Crittenton pulled guns on each other in the locker room.

Arenas admitted to storing four unloaded guns in his locker at the Verizon Center to keep them from his children. He then admitted to taking the guns out of the locker in a "misguided effort to play a joke" on a teammate.

Crittenton has not been charged and has denied any wrongdoing.

Arenas has been suspended indefinitely by the NBA. His guilty plea likely will further delay his return to the basketball court.

Arenas said after the game Tuesday that he pretended to have a bum knee to give teammate Nick Young a chance to start.

"I screwed up again, so I just want to say sorry," he said. "I wasn't really thinking that this was going to be another media outburst. It's like everything I do now, someone, tit for tat, tries to blow it out of proportion."
Arenas wasn't done there, going on to blame the media for publicizing the story.
"If I wouldn't [have] made any comments, you guys wouldn't have known, right?" Arenas said. "Right. So, let's just say I blew it again. You guys want somebody honest, but you don't want somebody honest. I messed up again. I'll never do it again.
"At the end of the day, you guys got to do your job. Even though it's not right that you guys are nitpicking everything I do, you've got a job to do and I've got a job to do."
