West Virginia/JUCO/C.W. Post/Kean RB Jason Gwaltney (official thread)

let me first say that i wish him all the best, he seems like an awesome kid, and if he feels that WVU is the best fit for him, than i respect that decision

althought i must say, and i know that you guys frown upon the "JT cannot close sentiment"..........but i do have to say that for me personally i cannot help but be disappointed that he said all along that OSU and USC were the leaders with W. Virginia just barely creeping back into the picture..........to think that the WVU coaches were able to swoop him up at the last minute, is somewhat disappointing in my eyes.........not that i hold our coaching staff in contempt, maybe they did everything possible? who knows? maybe he was never ours to lose?

i find it puzzling that he made the comments at the AA game about not liking the shotgun offense and how that will adversely affect one of his choices, and it seemed at that time and leading up to about a week ago that WVU was in fact about a 50-1 shot......then he ends up choosing them in the end..........this has without question been the most intriguing recruiting battle that i've followed closely

Someone just made a ton of vCash...
Yeah -- that wily old grad21 for one -- :tongue2:

On Gwaltney - Sure its a shame he didn't come to tOSU, however, I find it refreshing that after all was said and done he went back to the ones who first paid his talents full attention.

More's the shame -- we will never in all likelihood see our run-D get a workout against him.

I feel like going over to view a Trojan board just to see what total and complete implosion looks like in a virtual world.

I lost v1000 on USC. I tried to toss 100 on W. Va a little later, but the bet was closed the day before. :(

But it's nice to see USC lose out on a guy they flew across the country for. I'm sure they'll land a real stud RB next year.

Best of luck as a Mountaineer, Jason.

I don't know if it's just because he didn't choose SC, but there is something refreshing to see a young man be tempted by glitz and fame and choose loyalty and family instead.

I'm also very interested to hear the insider's accounts of tOSU and SC coaching staffs reactions to this announcement. Seems as though everyone thought he was SC bound, but people on both sides kept saying that all the staffs were confident with their chances. It's going to be interesting to hear why it was that everyone was so confident, just to see JG end up at WV.

I hope this kid does great in school and enjoys dancing with "the one who brung" him.

What else do you expect coaches to do? Not everyone will pick us, even those we want pretty badly. Keep in mind that he originally committed to WVU, and then supposedly to USC...he never committed to us, and yet we were in it until the end, and were even his #2 school over glamour-child USC. This shows how confused he was as to where to go...it was the kid's decision process, and not our coaching staff, that led to his choosing WVU.

As for the "50-1 shot", that was simply the arbitrary odds placed for a vBet. I don't think too many folks actually had WVU as that far of a long shot.
