What should the punishment be for a play like this?

Yes.

But only if you normally do violent stuff with your neighbor, you're both wearing protective gear, and the only difference between it being allowed and not allowed was that you did it too late.

Sorry, but this wasn't just a "late hit." This was his view as the play ended. He came in full steam ahead, and didn't just tackle, he went for a high hit. If you want to say you're okay with 1 game, that's fine. I would also be okay with an actual additional 1 game suspension, but this was not an actual 1 game suspension.

I thought it was classy for Tressel to contact Alvarez. Didn't Reynolds personally apologize to Sorgi?

At the time I thought "~phew!~ Just one game!" But looking back, without including the emotion of being a fan wanting Ohio State to win, it really should have been more. 2-3 games.

And same with the LSU player. 2-3 games added on to the 1-2 minutes he missed at the end of that game.

If Roby's hit on the 6'10" Iowa tight end was targeting (when Roby's feet were still on the ground), the Texas-Notre Dame play was absolutely targeting.

The Sorgi choke out was one of the worst things I've ever seen.

I was embarrassed. I was waiting on him to be dismissed from the team.

Tressel being the highly intelligent man he was, asked one of the sports true low class sleaze balls to name the punishment and it was only 1 game.

Boutte called the Wiscy player and apologized as well according to Miles.

He didn't even miss a snap (offense never got ball back), so I don't count the ejection as an actual part of his punishment.

Right, which is the part I think a lot of people take issue with. He was ejected from a game that was over, so by rule he missed the second half of that game and the first half of the next game. Therefore, LSUs/Les Miles punishment is actually a half game, because he was missing the first half already under the targeting rule.

I agree that it wasn't just a late hit, but that was just a horrible analogy presented which is why I made that comment. Was the only way I could remotely try to fit his analogy back to it.
