Off the top of my head, I thought the Eagles and Bengals (despite Morgan Trent) had pretty good classes.

Bengals of all teams should stay away from the head cases and instead loaded up.

I think the Eagles really helped themselves. Not sure what in the hell the Broncos were thinking.

As a Steelers fan I am happy with the appearant depth we got but I still don't see 10 rookies making the team. I wish they would have used picks to trade up and get an impact OT but its hard to second guess their FO.

That's just too easy. The discussion should be "who, besides the Raiders, had the worst draft?".The old bastard is completely insane and has been for some time now.

Now watch Bey be the second coming of Jerry Rice and Jamarcus Russel go on to be a HOFer.:tongue2:

Orakpo was great, but a no brainer.

Then we were graced with these gems from Washington:

CB Barnes Maryland
OLB Glenn Nebraska
ILB Henson TCU
FB Williams Idaho
WR Marko Mitchell Nevada

- Instead of Ricky Jean Francois :smash:

As far as talent goes, the Bengals did the best. They got one headcase for sure, but I don't think Maualuga is going to cause any problems. Maturity was the issue with him, I don't recall him ever going out and getting drunk and getting pulled over.

They addressed pretty much all their needs with players who were of good value for their location in the draft.

Andre Smith (the most debatable, considering Eugene Monroe was available)
Rey Maualuga
Michael Johnson (DE - pretty explosive player for the third round)
Chase Coffman (TE)
Jonathan Luigs (C - wouldn't be surprised to see him start at center this year, the Bengals are abysmal at that position)
Kevin Huber (P - first taken and is supposed to be a really good punter in all aspects)
Morgan Trent (ugh - but they needed depth)
Bernard Scott (RB)

Addressed starting positions of need and backups where depth is needed. They got some good value clear through the fifth round.

Charachter issues with players isn't always about some spectacular off field problems. In the huddle on 3rd and long, in the locker room and in the weight room those guys can do even more damage. That halftime meltdown in the playoffs against Pittsburgh a couple years back is a prime example of what happens to a team full of head cases when faced with adversity.

There are many published concerns about the work ethic and charachter of both Smith and Johnson. Lots of unconfirmed stuff about Maualuga his whole time at USC. I don't know any of them personally so tifwiw.

Just saying of all the teams who probably should be most accutely aware of this problem to go and spend at least 2 of their first 3 picks on guys with red flags in the charachter department seems, well...very Bungle like.

I know they have troubles in those areas, but they had a great draft based on talent. I'm not going to hold anything against these guys until they show that they're terrible people in the NFL. :p

I think the biggest problem with their draft is taking Smith. Maualuga in the second round.. can't blame them. They have a gaping hole at MLB and he was considered the best ILB in the draft by many people. Johnson is worth the risk in the third round IMO, I think he was being touted as a potential first rounder before the season. Could be wrong here.

Basically, I'm not disagreeing with you. Talent-wise, they had a fantastic draft.

(I'm not a Bengals fan)

And while we're on this character subject, the Vikings and Niners are getting to Bengals territory. The Bengals have actually done pretty well with arrests lately (the last arrest was Leon Hall driving drunk to the hospital because his wife was having a baby, it's a bad decision.. but the circumstance was a little different). Aside from that they've been better than average when it comes to arrests. But they're still fun to make fun of.

Who knows who had the best draft. It's like asking who had the best recruiting class. I'd like to defer to two stars from this years Super Bowl (James Harrison and Kurt Warner) before I form my own opinion. Maybe they know better than anyone, seeing that neither was ever drafted by anyone.

Peace.

Yeah, who knows, the Bengals are due to get lucky just by the law of averages. Maybe these guys will all actually pan out, keep their heads together and make the Bengals a consistent winning team for the next decade.

:slappy: ok, ok I don't believe it for a second either but I thought it sounded nice.
