What would you have done

What would I have done? It's money found in a house not owned by me, it belongs to the owner of the house.

I would have given it to the owner, and then politely requested some kind of reward.

Of course, in my opinion, the owner should have then tried to find the original owner and / or descendents. Someone worked hard for that money at some point in time. Their kids should have it.

Then again, if I had any kind of bad feelings between me and the person who hired me, I probably would keep it. I'm petty that way.

But how to share? She offered 10 percent. He wanted 40 percent. From there things went sour.

It's a shame they didn't have the sense to finish the conversation this way:

How about 25%?

Deal!

"If these two individuals had sat down and resolved their disputes and divided the money, the heirs would have had no knowledge of it," said attorney Gid Marcinkevicius, who represents the Dunne estate. "Because they were not able to sit down and divide it in a rational way, they both lost."

Yep.... that's how you destroy value.
