When does "great offense" equal crappy defense?

When teams with a combined record of 10-8 put up 20 touchdowns and zero punts, that is the very definition of crappy defense.

Houston QB recap:

Tune's production was on another level Saturday, combining for over 600 yards of total offense and eight touchdowns. Somehow this was not enough to get the win, nor was it enough to be the most productive quarterback in the game, as SMU's Tanner Mordecai scored 10 total touchdowns.

Sacramento State tried two onside kicks in the 4th quarter and recovered both. They've run 105 plays. Normally, they'd be cruising, but this game is not normal.

It's 63-59, Sac State. Incarnate Word has run only 16 plays in the second half yet they've scored 31 points. I'll be more surprised if they don't score, than if they do.

Meanwhile, one of the complaints against Woody was that his defense never got to practice against an offense that passed the ball first. Get up two scores in the second half and woody’s teams wouldn’t have the time to score. It occasionally worked and woody was helped by the fact that Purdue and Northwestern were the only pass first teams he faced until the Rose Bowl opponents.

So reverse the argument now. Day is clearly pass first so how often does the defense get to practice against stopping the run?

just a thought.
