If he is anything like the great man everyone says he is he better not die between 6:00 and 10:30 (plus any OT) tonight.

(This post ought to get me fairly deep into the levels of hell.)

I hear Michael Shiavo has already demanded they remove his life support and let him die in peace.

Every strain of my semi-strict Catholic upbringing has been stirred by simply clicking this thread...

    I feel dirty...

I hope the pope hangs on for a week or two. That way I'll get to watch the media try and keep this story alive when there is nothing to report.

I think the only reason he has hung on this long is that he has Louisville and North Carolina in the finals.

I think he is holding on till Sunday, just like Gen. Stonewall Jackson did after being shot a few days before (not comparing the two, but Jackson always said it was his wish to die on a Sunday).

You can't beat 2 deathwatches in a week!

I say he dies tomorrow, the Lord's Day.

I'm not Catholic but understand the importance of the Pope and his work.

    RIP John Paul.

BTW, Pop John Paul's real name was Karol Wojityla.

I always wondered what his real name was and decided to look it up today.

Could anyone explain to a non-Catholic like myself, how they choose the papal name like John Paul II?

  14. The Pope chooses their own papal name, I think that Pope John Paul the 1st, was Pope for a very short time and died unexpectedly, and Pope John Paul the 2nd took his name in honor of him
