The funny thing is, no one can think of any intelligent reasons as to why they hate tOSU. Usually the #1 reason why anybody hates a team is because of their success. But when you're at the top, and you're getting everyones best game, it only raises the competitive level of Ohio State. Keep on trucking buckeyes!! :osu:

Judging by the reactions of the people around me, and the media, we are now the rival of PSU, PU, and Wiscy...fuck that group of clingy idiots! Give me a scUM beatdown every day of the year. While everyone puts that target on our back, our stock holds serve amidst losses because of the reputation of being an elite team over an extended period of time. A long time coming? A few good but not great years does not a dynasty make. I remember as recently as 2005 we were thrilled just to win the Big 10. Kansas, UNC, Duke have all been dominant forces on the national spectrum for 20+ years.

I wouldn't say you're everyone's rival. When you're a top 5 team, you're going to get everyone's best shot. But more often than not, most of these teams that are losing to you, probably move on pretty quickly. I true "rival" is going to stew over the loss for more than just the length of a shower.

I'm not understanding your question.

Does the phrase "a long time coming" not mean that it's been a long period of time before [insert event here]? That's the way I used it, that's the way I've always used it. I could honestly be confused as to the meaning of this phrase.

Regardless of that, I KNOW I never said anything about a "dynasty". I simply said that being an upper echelon team with a big name for an extended period of time tends to lend itself to a different type of treatment. There have been numerous teams that have found themselves getting that "Kansas/UNC/Duke treatment", as I put it, for a handful of seasons then fading back into the oblivion from whence they came. Those three teams in particular have a different, more renowned history in the game of basketball that gives them that edge for longevity, much like Michigan, Ohio State, USC, etc... have and reap benefits from in football.

Under Matta, this program has again reached that pinnacle, one that it hasn't seen in 50 years. Like I said, only time will tell how long it stays there and how much it will do for the program in the future. What we CAN see from the immediate is that teams ALWAYS mark the Ohio State game on their calendar and tend to give the Buckeyes the best shot they have. THAT, as others have stated, is how you know you've made it.

Here's the short response: I'm tired of everyone besides scUM claiming us as a "rival (which is what I'm hearing from PU, Wiscy, and PSU fans)." STFU and go away. But I guess that means we're doing good.


Long response: I've heard (and am quite frankly sick of hearing it) from PU fans especially the past few years, that they as a fan base, seem to fixate on us as a rival as much, if not more than, IU as of late. And just like scUM has started to downplay their rivalry with us at times and moved towards MSU, PU seems to have heavily moved towards fixating on us as their rival. Quite honestly, that drives me nuts. I'm tired of the Purdon't fans around me heckling me like I care about their program or that I think about them in a rival sense. STFU and go back to IU. For the media continually pushing Wiscy and Penn State on us, stop enticing their fans, because they're buying it as well!

Let Penn State go back to some irrelevant rivalry, let Wiscy go back to hating whoever it was they hated before we started our string of dominance, and for the love of all things sacred in the world of sports, PU, keep to you little in-state civil war thing. I wish we were playing scUM on Tuesday instead of Illinois, just to have another chance to say we beat their ass again. I'm tired of the kids and punk teens at the table vying for the attention, I'm trying to keep my eye on the prize; beating scUM in anything and everything, and not giving them the courtesy of a reach-around.
