Which Thad 5'ers start next year?

I know that the freshmen we have brought in havent been 5 star caliber players like next year, but Matta has never brought his freshmen in and started them from day one.

Hell BFC started over Butler last year for half of the year.

And Twig and Bell hardly saw anytime their freshmen year.

I know we are going to be thin, but I just don't envision Matta starting more than one to begin the season. Now will they play alot I think so.

I wouldn't put it past the staff to push Jamar to the 2 considering how well he shoots and have Conley the 1. Of course Jamar is an awesome point, so who knows....BUT, this could be one of those scenarios where they just try to get the most talented 5 on the court.

Butler
Lewis
Oden

Only three guarantees in my book.

Butler
Lewis
Cook
Harris
Oden

If Conley or comes in and wows the coaches, I could see him jumping into the starting lineup at PG/SG next to Butler with Cook and Lewis on the wings and Oden in the center. I'm not really expecting three freshmen to be starting right away, though.

No question that Oden starts. As for the rest, I agree with most of you but I also think that Conley is just too good to sit. He will play a lot. He may not start, but I expect him to get major PT by season's end. Ditto for Cook. It's going to be a deep team at the guard positions.

Butler (lock) - Conley's good, but Butler's great
Lewis (lock to start, but maybe not at the 2) - Cook will see a lot of time & Mayes will see more
Harris - I see him moving to the 3. Lightly COULD start here if healthy...
Terwilliger - Hunter and Bell could see time here too
Oden (lock) - It's a shame we don't have TD for another year...

I think Twigs will challenge Harris for the 4-spot. Without Foster, Sullinger, and Sylvester, I'm thinking this team goes to more of a traditional starting 5.

Cook, Lighty or Mayes will start. If I had to guess, I would say Cook because he's a prototypical shooting guard. Ron Lewis is a lock to start next year in my mind, and Butler has solidified his spot for the next two years.

Oden's a guarantee to start.

My overall guess is:

Butler
Cook
Lewis
Terwilliger
Oden

Key bench contributors: Conley, Mayes, Harris, Lighty. Either Hunter or Bell will probably asked to contribute quality minutes as well because this team will be thin on the front line again.

I think Lighty needs to put on a LOT MORE muscle before he's ready to play consistent minutes.

I think Lighty needs to put on a LOT MORE muscle before he's ready to play consistent minutes.

I would think that he's needs a more consistent outside shot than more muscle. It's extremely unlikely that he plays much inside the arc.

But I think because of the fact that Matta runs a 3 and some times 4-guard offense, he'll have to get on the floor eventually.

EDIT: I must note that I am still unimpressed with Harris. He has a nice outside shot and because of his size, can get that shot off. But he couldn't take a 5th-grade girl off the dribble, and certainly hasn't developed the ability to post up anyone over 6'0".

I see two freshman starting, Cook and Oden. I think Cook is going to surprise (I don't know if this is the right word, but I use it because a lot on here aren't sure he will start) next year. He is so silky smooth and his skill set is unbelievable. From someone who has had the privilege of seeing him play several times, I don't think there is anyway that he doesn't start. He's got a pro body already, handles well, shoots well, boards well... The kid is a complete player.
As for the other starters, I see Butler, Lewis, and Harris. I agree with the posters above that said Twig will challenge or pass Harris at the 4. Harris is going to have to work his ass off this offseason to get a starting spot.

Oden is a lock. I personally think Thad will look hard at a high low set with Twigs high and Oden low. That leaves Butler, Lewis, and ? at 3 guard. If it works out like that I think Cook will probably play his way into a starting role. I really think he has enough talent to do that over the other returners. If Terwilliger is a straight back-up to Oden, then that changes things but I still think Cook starts as well. Just too good!!!

Greg Oden is the reason ours is the top recruiting class in the nation. With that said, though, Daequan Cook is going to be a superstar here. I cannot see him not starting, at least for most of the season (maybe not the first few games).
