Why was Auburn ranked in the top 10?

Funny down talking Auburn.

Georgia Tech left the SEC in '64 and has only ONE fewer SEC titles than Auburn (AU-6, GT-5). Seems like with a 40+ year advantage, they would have pulled away at least a little bit.

Yeah - they really do.
How Jason Campbell put together an SEC POTY type season is one of life's never ending riddles.

Of course - it helps when Ronnie Brown and Caddy Williams chew up 175 yards per game.

i find it strangely ironic that Brandon Jacobs transferred to Southern Illinois because he was tired of sitting behind those two, and now they are both perpetually banged up, and he's got a Super Bowl ring...

I'm quite thankful I graduated a year or two before that guy got to High School. Our HSs play in the same district. Saw him run slap the hell over our secondary(which is where I played).

back to the title of the thread...

Voters typically only "demote" teams in the poll IF they lose. To do otherwise, they would actually have to read a review of the games, or heaven forbid, actually watch all of the games. This doesn't happen, ever.

Then again, there are still a team or two that got blew out, scored no more points than Auburn, and yet still in the top 10. Fortunately for them, they will move back up in the polls as (perhaps better) teams lose to (perhaps better) teams, because... the voters don't have (or take) the time to objectively review each game.

IMO, as being a fan of a team that gets to play Auburn every year, "underated" is not a term that comes to mind. Like him or not, TT is a helluva coach. You can bet that if your team isn't 100% ready, and lucky on the day you play AU, you're not gonna win.

On Auburn vs. LSU...

Over the last several years, going into the season, the favorite for the SEC-West has either been AU or LSU, and it has been thought that the winner of this game would win the West (abeit, this thought wasn't always correct.) This has truly become a bitter rivalry (although more recently, I think both teams have earned the respect of the other... well... sorta.)

If the University of Alabama didn't share the state of Alabama with AU, I truly believe that the LSU-Auburn rivalry would now be larger than the bama-AU dueling... but they truly have to live with each other... hence the venom.

LSU hasn't beaten AU at AU since 1998. If LSU wins this year... it won't come easy. The AU you saw play MSU last week will not be the same team. AU will be every bit as fired up as OSU was in January. TT will have designed a game plan that will truly target LSU's weaknesses, and he probably camped out with Franklin all week to figure out a way to score enough points with their new offense to eak out a W.

Sorry for the long post... just offering two bits from the South... ok, maybe four.

This is the football equivalent of the OSU-UM in the SEC-West. The only difference is, after this game, LSU gets to play Florida, Georgia, and up and coming Alabama. Auburn can relax a little as they only have Georgia, bama (and W. Virginia.).

Yep... the first test of the season for both teams.

to me it sounds a little more like wisky or psu. first real test in conference. respectable level of bad blood.

Yup, this is the b10 equivalent of OSU-PSU. PSU just isn't afforded the same hype, despite some strong similarities.
and up and coming Alabama
We'll see how 'up' they are. Clemson is not a big time program, no matter how much the media ignores blocking... or their head coach, for that matter.

Whoever beats 'Bama first will likely get a big bump, for lazy reasons.

SEC titles before the confrence champ game are meaningless. Plus if you are going to quote me then quote the whole thing in context. But the facts are still Auburn like them or not, ( I am a Gator so my liking for AU is SEC brothers only and thats it. I wouldn't let my female friends date one) Auburn has beaten LSU and UF in recent years which is much more than a certain big 11 team from ohio can say.

They have also lost to Mississippi State in recent years.

Truly awe inspiring.
