What I hate is the fact that my company gives me a brand new Core 2 Duo laptop with 1 GB of RAM and it takes fucking 2 minutes to load up because of all the damn corporate security software and other shit they got running on it. Other than that, it's light and fast. Can't quite hang with the Macbook at home but it's nice to have two laptops handy.

Try unplugging it from the network, and turning off wireless until you get to the login screen. That usually speeds things up in my office.

I'm guessing the drive is encrypted. Anymore, companies probably have to do this to show due diligence. They'd be foolish not to.

or they can give backup tapes to an intern for safe keeping. :p

well after I rebuilt this machine, I was having issues with it recognizing certain pieces of hardware (like the NIC for example)...

After playing around with it a bit, I noticed this smell coming from the back of the computer.

Then the motherboard fried (I think). I only get a blinking orange light when I attempt to boot it up now.

BUT since my work is transitioning to Vista in the coming months the wife suggested that to be ready for it maybe we should buy a new PC with VISTA on it.

So we did. End of story. Thanks for the help though guys.
