Setting up a local account will probably solve your login issue, but after having several occurances of the Start button issue, I'm not sure if that will fix it. That problem is fairly common, usually after an update. Download the troubleshooter here:

Thanks gmen (et al).

I took my PC in on Wed to a local guy who had good reviews on Google. Anyway... he tried some software while I was there, but wasn't able to get it to find Windows on my C: in order to create a local account.
With a fair amount of concern, I left my PC with him to get it working. So, he re-stalled Windows, partitioned my drive so that it's split and I'll always have the opportunity to recover via Acronis, made sure that everything on my drive was saved, cleaned it up, and got it back to me yesterday after work. Thus far, it's working great, and I paid just under $100 to get it done.
If I could bill Microsoft for it, then I would. But since that imaginary world doesn't exist, I'm just pleased to be back home with my PC and all my data accessible. Granted, it's probably been sold to the same cats that hacked Equifax, but I'll keep my fingers crossed that he is legit. Anyway... as helpful and expedient as he was, and for what I consider a very fair price, the guy has a customer for the future.

If he didn't do it already, you can set up a local account yourself quite easily. In Settings, go to Accounts-Sign in options-use local account. Only take a minute. I used to always use a local account in the early versions of Windows 10, because for all of Microsoft's talk of how secure it is, I never liked how it displayed my email address on the login screen!

A future email coming your way...?

Greetings from your country. My name is Hamilton Corso. I am the attorney for Tupelo Dragon, your great grandfather's cousin's most trusted associate. He loved you dearly.

Sadly, we must inform that his crocodile sex aids business has closed and the lawsuit by Mr Derresnope Enisnow is over.

We need to verify that you are Mr Dragon's only living relative who meets the conditions of his will. The burden of his esteemed legacy is weighing on our minds.

Please help us by letting us download the special forms onto your computer hard drive and sending 6 gazillion v$ at once. You need only complete form and all this legacy be yours soon. Big time.

PS. Thanks for using our computer services.

I forgot to mention that he set me up as a local account.
