Wisconsin Badgers (Official Thread)

Michigan deserves every bad thing anyone has ever said about it and we should throw the state out of the union before firebombing it all.

I don't necessarily agree with the order of operations here.

Why not firebomb and salt the earth first? Then quibble over legal niceties regarding Union membership and the like. I mean, if you do the first part right there should be no one left to vote against it or even complain. Right?

How great would it be to see the whining out of (who really cares where?) if Wisconsin is 6-0, and the other team is 7-1?
Then Ohio State beats Wisconsin by a lot, and that 7-1 team beats... let's say Rutgers was #2 in the east... Rutgers by a lot. Wisconsin can then whine because they really should have been #2, and they should have been allowed to play Rutgers, instead of Ohio State.

So with one game lost of the 8, Wisky has no more room for error to even make the 6 games needed to be West champs, no?

They still could not play one more to get 6 games in. Additionally (but it isn't likely at this point in time) the B1G could change the rules and/or extend the season so cancelled games are played.

Just sayin': Corn shouldn't be penalized by Cheese players attending a wedding (i.e. failing to adhere to the COVID-19 protocol) which ultimately resulted in their game being cancelled. If the game doesn't get played (and it doesn't look like it will) then Corn should get a fortiture win so it doesn't further jeopardize their chances (i.e. not enough games) to play in the B1G Conference Championship game.

I get this line of thinking. I'm guessing they chose to categorize these situations as "cancelled" instead of "forfeited" so as not to incentivize lying about results. If they have proof of multiple players blatantly breaking protocol i.e. the Titans, I have no problem punishing those teams.

I think the question was more about Nebraska - they shouldn't be cancelled with a missed game. What if this game gets cancelled, and then their next opponent gets an outbreak and that game gets cancelled, and then it happens again? Nebraska may be following the rules, but there's now only 5 games on their schedule. Say they went 4-1 in those 5 games, and everyone else in the division has 2 losses. Should they be punished with a 5-game season, and ineligible from the championship game?

21 days for those that test positive ..they miss two more right. Two more cancellations.
Those players are out for 21 days, but the team isn't necessarily shut down for those 21 days. Depends on how many people Wisky is testing, who's testing positive and how long they continue to test positive.

See here and here. Wisconsin was in "orange/red" status, according to the second link, and they decided to cancel.

Scheduled mine on a Friday because the Buckeyes were playing USC on Saturday night.

I knew a guy who scheduled his for the same day as the 2005 game against Texas. Then he re-scheduled it for that afternoon so it would be after the game. Then it turned into a night game. Fine with me: I sat in the bar and watched the game.

I still blame that loss on him.

ours was in May because my wife didn’t want any chance of a Buckeye sporting event messing with the day

edit: must be noted my wife is from Columbus and so almost all of her family are buckeyes ... so in this case it wasn’t me causing the issue

Wisconsin-Nebraska game deemed a no contest as Badgers cancel amid COVID-19 outbreak

Even though the game did not meet the Big Ten's cancellation threshold, there will not be a forfeit

The Wisconsin-Nebraska game previously scheduled for Saturday is the first in the Big Ten to be declared a no contest due to a COVID-19 outbreak. It will not be made up or forfeited despite Wisconsin making the call on its own to cancel without consideration for the Big Ten's automatic thresholds.

Wisconsin announced Wednesday that six players and six coaches, including starting quarterback Graham Mertz and head coach Paul Chryst, have tested positive for COVID-19.

Neither of those figures were enough to trigger an automatic cancellation that comes with a COVID-19 positivity rate of at least 5% and a population positive rate of at least 7.5% in the neighboring area. Short of that, Big Ten protocols state teams can "consider viability of continuing with scheduled competition."

"Anything below that, if local leadership -- the president, chancellor, athletic director, medical staff, public health -- any of them deem that it's inappropriate to move forward, they work in consultation with us and with opponent," said Big Ten spokesman Kerry Kenny. "No contest is the outcome."

A "no contest" means the game is not counted for either side.

There was some outcry on social media, primarily from Nebraska fans who believed that the Cornhuskers should receive a forfeit victory because the Badgers made the decision unilaterally.

Big Ten athletic directors voted unanimously last week to allow schools to cancel a game when they deemed positivity rates were too high but fell short of the aforementioned "red/red" threshold that would trigger an automatic shutdown.

On its own, Wisconsin decided to cancel the Nebraska game and shut down the program for a minimum of seven days.

"We just felt that with the number of positives in that short a timeline, the chancellor and I felt we have an issue that we had to make this decision and get our arms around this virus now before it got out of hand," Wisconsin athletic director Barry Alvarez said.
