Would you be happy with 12-1 in 2008 with a Title Game loss?

In 2008, would you take 12-1 with a loss in the NC Game.

  • Sure, another awesome season and a win over scUM.

Me too. Another MNC loss would be crushing. It's very odd/uncomfortable to feel like we have to win the MNC or this is a lost season. The expectations now are unreasonable (on my own behalf...that's what's weird is that I KNOW my own expectations are unreasonable and yet I can't get rid of them).

So, I'm of the belief that a 1 loss, BCS bowl birth with wins over USC and TSUN would be preferable to a MNC loss.

By the way, great thread you've created...I think it really highlights how through-the-roof the expectations have become. I'm a bit ashamed of the way I look at this season after thinking about your post.

It's heartbreaking to lose the NC, but I'd take the shot anyway, win or lose... We can't let our pride get in the way.

How would you respond to this question if you were a player?

Or, better yet, how would you respond if your kid was playing on the team?

If my kid was playing on the team...bowl win. If it was actually me as a player....tough one since the response requires me to admit I didn't win the championship. I think if I was told I was going to lose the MNC, I'd take the BCS bowl win though.

Of course. So would I, if knew I'd lose...

But the question is what would you choose if you didn't know whether you'd win or not - ie take the shot or not?

I'd take the shot because I'd had to believe I would/could win. Otherwise what's the point of competing.

I'm pretty sure all Buckeye fans here would take the shot in the NC game. But that isn't the question in this poll, the question assumes a title game loss.

I can't watch this team lose another title game. It will really hurt me.

The nice thing about this year is that we'll know alot by the 3rd week... if we go to SoCal and beat them we should be 12-0 heading into the bowl season...and I imagine that will be enough for us to play for the BCS title again.

If we lose to USC I don't think a 1 loss OSu team is going to have the support from the voters it will need to play for another title.

I never expected us to play for the title last year, and it might have done us a disservice as far as getting there this year, the year I did expect it (especially after everyone came back)

Yep, getting the bid last year could actually cost us one this year, in that I don't think there's any way the voters put a 11-1 OSU team in the NC game this year. I can hear the outcry already.

We have to go 12-0 to have any shot at it.

Exactly.

An "NC or bust" mentality is a sure-fire way to feel badly about a great season. 13-0 just doesn't happen every year, no matter the talent.

Quite frankly, i'd rather we didn't go to the NC game this year. We need a break from that. 12-1 with another beat-down of the weasels and a BCS bowl win would be fine by me.


Now, having said that, if we do go to the NC game, I'm not going to complain....:biggrin:

Gotcha... So let me get this straight. The choice is either lose the NC or win a BCS Bowl?

In that case the choice for me is clear. I'll take a win over a loss any day.
