I'm unsure how someone can go from writhing around on the field for minutes, not being able to breathe or walk, hunched over on the sideline crying and looking like he's about to vomit, and being in pain to the point that he can't keep his eyes open while he's being loaded into an ambulance to being declared "just fine" about an hour later.

Concussion symptoms can go away in as short as a few hours (they can also last a really long time). I am guessing his symptoms subsided and he was safe to leave, but I bet he had a concussion.

I'm assuming that they thought he had a concussion, which is why the turnaround between him being taken off the field and the statement from OSU is so weird to me.

I don't really pay attention to injuries in general though so it might be normal procedure.

Great shot jwins. Seeing this, now I'm inclined to believe that -- aside from the possible mild-concussion -- the gasping for air and wooziness was from being choked-out by the collar of his own jersey.

Concussions are not solely caused by an impact to the head, they can occur anytime that the head and upper body are shaken violently.

By definition, all concussions affect the way that the brain functions: concentration, memory, judgment, balance and coordination can all be affected. With that said, symptoms can show up immediately, or even hours or days later. I am certain that he had a very thorough neurological work up at OSUMC including a CAT scan. The only way that the doctors would have made the decision to release him is if those tests convinced them he did not have a significant neurological deficiency and that he was not in danger of rising intracranial pressure (bleeding and/or swelling in the brain). However, you can be sure that they will be testing him daily until they are certain he can return to contact.

It looked to me like nausea hit him on the field immediately after the injury and that his balance and coordination were significantly impaired; classic symptoms of a concussion.

I have no doubt that the medical staff will take good care of Braxton and make his health the top priority

I think it was 1990 but I remember Boomer Esiason getting knocked out of a playoff game againt the Raiders in LA...he exhibited many of the same symptoms, reaction and movment issues that Braxton had now that I've watched the game. Boomer was taken to the hospital and they ran pretty much all the same tests. The official word was that Boomer had suffered a 'bruised lung'...he, too, was released from the hospital and traveled back to Cincinnati with the team after the game. The Bengals lost the game so nobody know is Esiason would have played the next week but, as I recall, Boomer told media here that he felt good by the time he got to the hospital and that he wanted to come back and finish the game but the medical people (raider team doctor...remember the cheap Bengals don't travel team doctors) wouldn't let him.

I'm not saying this is what I THINK happened to Miller...just saying that everything has played out exactly how it did 22 years ago...Yes, I'm old. LOL.

Yeah I have a feeling that if he had stayed in, they would've moved the ball much better. Now saying that, I still think Miller would've had a fairly average day, don't think he was going to put up 300+ yds in the remaining time, but he and the offense were starting to show signs of life and he looked like he was going to make up for a few of those TOs.

Sucks that he had a bad day and then left because of the injuryish thing that happened, but I'm just glad he's ok and will live to play another down this year. Doubtful that he stays in the top three of the Heisman race, but eh, he can still get an NY invite depending on how much he plays next week and if he can figure out the passing game.

I'm not a medical professional, but sorry, there's no fucking way that Miller did not have some sort of concussion...no fucking way. The symptoms may have subsided/disappeared but he was virtually out on his feet when they stood him up, and how long was he down on the carpet? He was clearly fucked up pretty badly.

I'd sit him the next game and let Kenny G take the snaps. Fuck the undeafeated season...make 100% sure that you don't risk getting Miller seriously hurt next week by rushing him back.

I'm not a medical professional, and I didn't stay at a Holiday Inn last night,but I'll let the doctors decide what is a concussion. And if it's safe for Brax or any kid to play. We're not Michigan State, sending a kid who got knocked cold back into a game because he's a star.

I am a medical professional with a lot of TBI experience. If he is doing what he should and getting a lot of brain rest right now he should be good to start next week. I'm not there, I don't know him, nor have I examined him so trust the team docs and ignore anything I have said.
