WR Braxton Miller (B1G POY, National Champion)

I've seen and heard people make a big deal about seeing Braxton cry. Why would the kid not cry? He couldn't even see straight or stand up. The dude is trying to lead the team to victory and he can't even get up off the ground. I'd cry too. Anyone questioning his toughness based on crying is a fucking moron.

Well, to those people I think we should take them out on the turf at the shoe, find ourselves a Big Ten Safety and have him smash them head first into the turf. I didn't see any "boo hoo" crying out there, I saw eyes watering from a serious bell ringing. The first time you take a shot in the head like that, its a wee bit disconcerting (and it should be) the metallic taste in your mouth and wanting to puke is bad enough... throw in being disoriented all the other things, yeah, lots of crying,.... whatever.

People were at church last night with Brax and his family. They report that he is perfectly fine and will be ready to roll for the PSU game. Only question in my mind is if he will start.

IMO, if he's healthy, then he will start. It's that simple.

As for the crying, I think I almost cried after he was hurt...

If he is ready to play, he'll start. No doubt about it. If he's not ready to play, then we should sit him and let him be healthy. There's just no way in hell you would ever NOT start the most electric player in college football unless he's hurt.

None of them were OSU fans either.

Could be a number of things. Either he was in that much pain, or that dissapointed that he thought he lost his team the victory.

If horse collar tackles are deemed to be a safety issue because of specific effects on the offensive player (being jerked backwards onto the ground) then there is no reason that an official cannot call unnecessary roughness on a tackle that produces the same effect regardless of whether it causes an injury.

Uh, yeah there is...it's because it's not a penalty as written. You start allowing refs to make up their own penalties on the fly and the game will never end. By the way, Miller wasn't jerked down backwards, he was jerked down sideways...

Absolutely, if he is ready to go, he's the starter. No questioning that.

You can still pull someone down sideways by their collar.
Which is exactly what happened.

Sounds like he had a wrenched neck that was extremely painful when the injury occurred and for a time afterwards but no damage was done. Just a sore neck.

I'm sure the medical staff will monitor him very closely.

Here's hoping and praying that Braxton continue to heal and is full go for the PSU game.

Figure it would be good to post this here, all based on Meyers presser today.

Braxton was whiplashed, had never suffered that kind of injury and was extremely rattled. Hence the staying down, hard to breathe etc. Basically, sounds like he was experiencing something like a panic attack.

He was given a concussion test by the sideline medical staff and cleared. Meyer was standing there when they said he did not have a concussion.

The hospital confirmed what the sideline staff said, no concussion. Braxton was able to calm down and the symptoms he was experiencing dissipated, although it appears he never showed any signs of a concussion (Memory issues, light sensitivity etc).

Everything appears to be lining up for Braxton to have a full week of practice, and to be 100% by Saturday's game.

On another note, Meyer expressed his concern with how injury prone Braxton has been, saying something to the effect of Braxton making so many plays that he sets himself up to take a lot of shots.

Finally, and this is not something that was discussed in the presser, just my thoughts, that could have been a horsecollar tackle.

The rule:
All players are prohibited from grabbing the inside back collar of the shoulder pads or jersey, or the inside collar of the side of the shoulder pads or jersey, and immediately pulling the ball carrier down. This does not apply to a ball carrier, including a potential passer, who is inside the
tackle box

Here is the full play, where the Purdue defender grabs what appears to be the collar, before releasing and grabbing just below the collar and snapping Miller to the ground. The way Braxton was pulled to the ground was illegal, although the difficult part is whether or not he was brought down by the collar. Clearly this is the type of play that the NCAA/NFL wanted to eliminate with the rule, and certainly could have been called on the field.

Regardless of the player being pulled down to the side or straight back, it's illegal to grab the collar and "immediately pull the ball carrier down." Doesn't matter which direction.

Ultimately, it's hard to make a final decision regarding the legality of that tackle.

you cant expect B1G officials to make that call. They are too busy letting purdue dlineman dive headfirst into our qb while he has the ball on the ground.
