WR Braxton Miller (B1G POY, National Champion)

Well the offensive line will go through a re-building stage and you have to think that Braxton knows that already. If he stays you know that he will take some hits from the defense and maybe he is tired of that to some degree. He sure did put a lot into his junior year and gave it
his best shot. I have a strong feeling he will for-go his Senior year and head for the pro's. Personally I would like him to stay but do you honestly think he can be the difference maker for Ohio State in 2014?
Huh? The two-time Offensive and overall B1G player of the year a difference maker? And asking as if it's a question? I'm not sure if I quite understand.

I tried to delete that part of my post and now realize it was a dumb question. Sorry for that. What I should have said, was that if he comes back it, would be a lot of responsibility for him. Again - sorry for the dumb thinking on my part.

Gotcha. Yea but I think we'll have a great team with him - possibly another 12-0 or 11-1 - or a pretty good team without him - maybe 9-3 or 10-2. The defense will be (or hopefully will be) improved. D line should be nasty. Assuming Shazier leaves we will take a step back at linebacker but with us returning everyone else probably not as much of a step back as people may think. And the secondary should improve even if only slightly (if Bryant was healthy the whole year I may say that it would worsen, but the loss of Roby could be outweighed by the incredible amount of young depth we have there, and then our safeties can't get much worse in the pass game at least). In the very very off chance Bryant gets a medical waiver, I would consider it to be much improved. On offense I think the O line will be fine. Yes, not as terrorizing but not awful. Particularly the left side with Decker, Elfein, and Boren. TE's will be improved. HB will drop off slightly since Hyde was such an animal, but I don't think EzE/Smith will have as much of a drop off as we may expect. Also have to factor in Dontre's improvement and having him come into his own as a true "percy" position kind of guy. And finally outside of Philly, the wideouts will improve vastly. One could make an argument that we will have a better, deeper team next year than we had this year. But that relies on one thing: Braxton.

If he goes, he goes. He's not a draftable NFL QB right now though.
This is the bottom line. He needs more time being a QB. The NFL puts a premium on college time at QB because of development. He's tremendously talented but not great at reading defenses, yet. But he might be getting pressure from his family or someone to go make some money. Who really knows.

Sounds like he wants to go, and if that's the case then he should go. He loses Hyde, though there is depth at RB, and his line, but I have a feeling some will be surprised by the improvement of the youngsters. Combine that with a 'I wanted to go to the NFL' attitude that Roby seemed to sport this year, and it won't be good for anyone. Better to get Barrett out there, and he won't improve his draft stock. Right now he'll get drafted in the 4th-7th rounds and I wouldn't expect to see him last more than a few years, but you still get paid for it. With all the injuries and lawsuits, he may want to get his paycheck and get out, may be the smartest thing to do. With another year and a great attitude, like the past 24 months, he would be more of a 3rd-4th rounder and stand a better shot at making it and get a bigger paycheck. He'd need vast improvement in the 3-step drop to be considered 1st or 2nd, but who knows.

I think Braxton has the physical skills. And I hope he comes back because we are a great team with him in there at QB. However, I don't think he has the mental makeup to play NFL QB. It's not IQ, it's just that QBs have to have that point guard type of mind --- they seem to know instictively where to send the ball and how hard, or when to drive the lane.

Know how it looks when a post man rotates out on top and ends up with the ball, and they look lost, trying to figure out what to do with the ball? That's what Braxton looks like to me...

I'm no expert or coach, just my impressions.

While we're on the subject, I wonder what Aaron Craft looked like as a QB??

Another thing to consider is that Miller is just so laid back and quiet. I'm not sure that translates well to the NFL. You can try to be a leader all you want but sometimes it isn't in your DNA.

The fact that Philly Brown was the leader of that offense speaks volumes.

I know I will get flamed badly for this, but Braxton is just not an NFL caliber QB. I hope that I'm proven wrong, but just look at the track record of Buckeye QBs in the NFL. We recruit fantastic athletes who play the QB position. He just is not a great passer, and in the NFL, you have to be great.

I wish him well, but for he and his family, I hope he stays in school and gets his degree before leaving for the NFL.

The comparisons to Troy are interesting, and it's an obvious discussion that'll happen... but... it seems to me there was so much more at work there.
Troy was at least a sure-fire Day1 pick before January. He had truly developed into a passer as a Senior and was coming off a phenomenal game against his favorite opponent. Then it all went downhill... that game, the NFL combine, questions about his height, etc., etc., etc.
On the one hand, I don't think Braxton has to worry about that kind of slide. On the other, he hasn't developed to that level yet.

From what I saw on the field, Roby didn't seem to have an attitude problem to me. Was there some off-the-field stuff that people are basing that on ? Because I thought he played his heart out every game. Yea he got beat a number of times; but he showed up for run support and tracked a lot of guys down on other player's blown assignments. He wasn't a leader like we've needed, but his presence was missed greatly against Iowa and Sparty.

Personally I hope Braxton comes back, but of course it's his choice. If he does go, I hope he gives us a hell of a show in Florida and impresses at the combine.

I think Troy didn't make it in the NFL for two reasons: I don't think mentally he worked as hard as he could have and he didn't have great touch on intermediate and short passes.

Braxton isn't close to being ready to be an NFL QB at this point. He should stay and I hope he stays, but I think he is going to leave.

I agree on Roby. I think people are really reaching if they are saying they saw attitude or effort problems from Roby. He didn't have a great year but he was battling.

The whole Roby having "buyer's remorse" thing about staying may have caused confusion for Brax, but I'm just speculating.
I think Brax will come back when he hears the evaluations from the NFL guys. I don't think we've even seen Brax's ceiling yet.

Braxton made big strides from his Sophmore and Junior years. He's not going to sharpen his skills sitting on an NFL bench. He has similar skills as Pryor and how long did Pryor have to wait until he got his chance? Another year in CFB should do Braxton well. It would have helped Pryor out but his situation was different. I hope for Braxton's sake and for the sake of tOSU that he returns for his Senior year.

The downside I can see for him if he stays, is he's a bit on the breakable side.

True, he does have a history of injuries, but it's football. Injuries will happen. His biggest concern has to be that he's not a very good QB, good-great athlete, yes, but not a good QB. And he'll be drafted as a QB in the NFL, unless he wants to take the Ryan McNeal, Matt jones, Antwan randle-el, hairlice Robinson, route of QB turned WR. He had some pretty terrible games against bad competition and our fan base made excuses about weather when opposing QBs threw for a ton of yards(I.e. Illinois, wisky, scUM, MSU) in the same conditions. It's not out of the realm of possibility for him to make a Troy smith like senior leap, and he'll need it if he wants to get drafted in the first 3 rounds. Hes more like a 5-6 rounder now and that's only based off of athleticism and how coaches could use him in certain packages, but he wouldn't be a true QB that a coach looks at to lead his team, even as a backup. He's just too much of a risk right now, a one legged Gardner outclassed him in The Game if you base it just on passing. Those same long runs won't be happening as often in the nfl, ask cam newton, rg3, TP, and a number of dual threat college QBs who quickly had to learn that's not going to happen in the league. I hope Braxton returns, for our sake and his, because he's in for a rude awakening if he bolts now. Get another year of seAsoning and coaching, it'll only help in the long run from a football standpoint.
Now if he NEEDS the money for family issues, that's a different discussion all together...
