WR Brian Robiskie (Official Thread)

BSB $

Brian is extremely excited to be a part of the 2005 tOSU recruiting class. He had visited the WHAC before, but on his visit he was exposed to the future plans for the complex and the program overall. He respected the way the coaching staff was upfront with him after the Buckeyes received two early WR verbals. However, as the recruiting class panned out, the staff realized one of those commitments may have to play DB. Therefore, another WR spot opened up and Brian was the first name Coach Tucker wanted to call. Brian is excited to get started as early as possible in hopes of being ready for the fall:

"I know Coach Hazell is going to get me as prepared as possible. We were talking about how early I could come down there and start throwing with those guys on the weekends, how early he could get me my playbook. As early as possible, in the summer or however early I get in there, I'm going to be as prepared as possible to try to get a jump start on the whole situation."

I really like the drive that this kid seems to have. Another poster brought up Mike Jenkins and he does remind me a little of him. With his dad being a coach, Brian's desire to be great, and the teaching of Hazell I have a feeling this kid is going to play early and not redshirt and become an absolute star.

With his size and abilitiy coupled with being a coaches son that understands route running (a WR coaches son) he could be very, very good. So glad Coach Tuck stuck with him all year, he has been great in the Cleveland area...

Well... I can't say this or the Washington commitments surprise me....

But regardless, this is a great addition. He's young and can still develop, so look for him to get a bit faster as well as bigger. I see him as a very similar receiver to Devon Lyons. Can you imagine fielding a lineup of Lyons, Robiskie and Hartline? Talk about talented, damn. Our current is awesome, these guys would just be taller.

Welcome to the land of the S&G....

Brian! Great pickup with mad potential! I say this is turning out to be a great class:

WR Brian Robiskie
S/WR Donald Washington III
QB Rob Schoenhoft
RB Maurice Wells
WR Brian Hartline
WR/CB Andre Amos
OT Alex Boone
OG Jim Cordle
LB James Laurinaitis
LB Austin Spitler
DT Todd Denlinger
DE Ryan Williams
DE Doug Worthington
CB Malcolm Jenkins
S Jamario O'Neal
S/RB Freddie Lenix
S/RB Anderson Russell

Three more to get, who knows?:
RB Jason Gwaltney - USC but just my opinion
DT Walker Ashley - Same as JG
DE/TE Lawrence Wilson - Good chance for the bucks!

All-American LB A.J.Hawk and WR Santanio Holmes coming back to play for the bucks instead of going pro. They should count for our recruiting class!

Very great chance of contending for the NC next year! With Teddy Ballgame, all of our talent, and Coach T 2 loses would be a bad year! Don't see it happening, these guys will make up for our 4 loses last year. Go bucks! tOSU vs USC. Beat them Trojans should be on everyones mind next year! But I think USC will have a harder time getting to the NC game because everyone will be out to knock them off next year!

Younger Robiskie opts for Ohio St.
Mark Koestner, Staff Writer
02/01/2005

Son of Browns' interim coach will play football for Buckeyes, who edged once-favored Miami

By Monday, the whirlwind had died down enough for Brian Robiskie to finally catch his breath.

"I'm a little calmer now. I made my decision (Sunday) night," the talented Chagrin Falls senior wide receiver said. "I'm going to Ohio State."
Robiskie gave a verbal commitment to the Buckeyes on Sunday after visiting the Columbus campus over the weekend. That visit came on the heels of a week that also included an official visit to Miami (Fla.) the weekend before, a late scholarship offer by Ohio State and a subsequent appearance last Monday at Chagrin Falls High School by Buckeyes coach Jim Tressel.

It was Robiskie's visit to Ohio State that ultimately swayed him toward the Buckeyes. "I think it pretty much put me over the top," Robiskie said. "I was favoring Miami, but everything that probably could have happened down there happened, from the standpoint of talking to the coaches, and everything just looked really appealing."

Robiskie will sign his national letter of intent Wednesday. In addition to the Hurricanes, Chagrin coach Mark Iammarino said, Robiskie considered Florida and Stanford.

Ohio State had been interested in Robiskie since his sophomore season, Immarino said. He was invited to Columbus to watch a game that year, then attended "Junior Day" and Ohio State's summer camp last year. But when the Buckeyes got early commitments from a pair of wide receivers last fall, they backed off Robiskie a bit.

When the possibility of one of those receivers moving to the defensive side of the ball arose, Ohio State made an offer to Robiskie, who is the son of Browns interim coach Terry Robiskie. "I'm proud of Brian because he's worked extremely hard, and he's had to fight through some stuff," Iammarino said. "It's not easy when your dad's the interim head coach of the Cleveland Browns and that season's not going too well, and you don't know what the future is going to be.

"It's been a tough six months for Brian. The football season was the easy part, the other stuff is what's been hard. He handled it well for a 17-year-old kid, and I'm really proud that people had the opportunity to see what we always saw: That he's not only a great athlete and a great student, but a great kid."

Robiskie, 6-foot-4, 195 pounds, caught 47 passes for 754 yards and 14 touchdowns in 2004 and was a first-team All-Ohio selection. He doesn't know where his father will work next year - although there has been speculation that he will remain with the Browns in some capacity - so he's not yet sure whether going to Ohio State means staying close to home or whether Miami would have necessarily meant going far away. "I looked at it is as I had two good situations - I could have gone with either one," Robiskie said. "I'm glad the decision-making process is over, and I'm excited because it feels like it's time for me to look toward the future now. I'm excited about doing what I can do over the summer to get ready for next fall."

Ohio State coaches no doubt are hoping the good feeling Brian Robiskie had in committing to the Buckeyes yesterday is contagious and reaches all the way to Jason Gwaltney today.

Robiskie, a receiver from Chagrin Falls and son of Cleveland Browns assistant coach Terry Robiskie, became the 17 th commitment to the OSU class as national letter of intent signing day nears Wednesday.

Gwaltney, of North Babylon, N.Y., and considered to be among the top 10 backs in the country, will announce on ESPN during the 6 p.m. hour today whether he’s going to OSU, West Virginia or Southern California. A Long Island newspaper reported yesterday that he said he had picked West Virginia, to whom he had committed last spring, but he and his coach, Terry Manning, refused to confirm that.

Robiskie let everyone know yesterday but gave some insight on how one’s mind can change.

"Before my official visit to Ohio State over the weekend, I was leaning toward Miami (Fla.)," Robiskie said. "But after I got to Ohio State and saw the other aspects of the school, such as the business school, and met with the coaches and some of the players, I felt real comfortable that Ohio State was the place for me."

i completely agree with you, i am thrilled with all of the recievers we got this year but i am most enthusiastic about brian robiskie. He defently has the size to be great, his dad is a coach, and it seems he cant wait to get started. Buckeye fans need to keep a close eye on this one.
