“I mean, last year was a great year for me,” Egbuka said. “I mean, I got to sit behind guys like Chris Olave, Garrett Wilson, Jaxon and really just learn from them. And I know how great of careers they're gonna have in the NFL, and just to have those guys as my big brothers guiding me along the way was the best thing I took out of last year.”

Going into his third season, Fleming might have his best shot yet at earning a starting job in Ohio State’s offense, but that’s far from certain. With Jaxon Smith-Njigba and Marvin Harrison Jr. set to lead Ohio State’s receiving corps, Fleming is competing with Emeka Egbuka for the third starting spot at wide receiver.

Egbuka was a top-10 overall prospect in his recruiting class, too, and flashed tons of playmaking upside last season as a true freshman, when he had 191 receiving yards on just nine catches as well as 580 kickoff return yards on only 20 returns.

Emeka Egbuka, who’s viewed as Fleming’s top competition for the third starting spot at receiver, spent Thursday’s practice with the second-team offense alongside with Xavier Johnson and Jayden Ballard.

Day also said he has high expectations for Egbuka even though Egbuka wasn’t with the first-team offense on Thursday.

“He's really sharp. His work ethic is off the charts, toughness is off the charts, ball skills really good,” Day said of Egbuka. “If he just keeps putting days in front of days, he's gonna have a really good year.”

  • Both Harrison and Egbuka pulled down impressive receptions that inspired excitement on the practice field during mini-field drills. Matched up one-on-one with Denzel Burke, Harrison raked in a pass from Stroud despite Ohio State’s star cornerback being draped all over him on the right side of the field. Egbuka made an equally challenging contested catch in the same series with Tanner McCalister providing nearly perfect coverage.

......and Emeka doesn't play defense. Him not playing had nothing to do w/ Haskins scoring 4 rushing TD's. They beat us up on both LOS.

I agree that he was missed on ST's, but don't think that would have been enough to swing or change the outcome of that game.

It's almost like saying "if Ted Ginn played against UF then OSU would've won"...
