WR Grant Schwartz (official thread)

I'm wondering if it's too soon to get the dancing banana's warmed up a little bit or not. Congratulations on the offer Grant:drunks: , and here's to you making the best decision for yourself. Obviously, all of us here will tell you one thing, and one thing only (you know what it is!)...hopefully you choose the Buckeyes. I can only imagine playing HS ball 3 time zones away from a school that already has a fan base started for me. All while wearing blue! :wink2: Keep the good news rolling!!

Dana Hills survives scare
Schwartz caps a big game by recovering an onside kick to end Aliso Niguel's rally.

The Orange County Register

DANA POINT – Those who left Dana Hills' stadium before the end of Friday night's football game missed the scare Aliso Niguel put into one of the county's fastest-improving teams.
Aliso Niguel scored 14 points in the final two minutes but Dana Hills' Grant Schwartz recovered a late onside kick as the Dolphins held on for a 24-21 nonleague victory against the previously undefeated Wolverines.

Dana Hills (4-1) opens South Coast League play next week at top-ranked Mission Viejo, which had coaches in the stands here Friday.

Schwartz was again the Dolphins playmaker. The senior's recovery of the onside kick might have been his biggest play because the kick passed 10 yards and then bounced off a Dana Hills player.

"I think so," Dana Hills coach Armando Gonzalez said. "It was a little disappointing at the end but we'll take that victory."

Dana Hills led, 24-7, and had possession late in the fourth period. Schwartz, who played through an ankle injury, wasn't at quarterback when Alex Yoon recorded a sack and forced a fumble the Wolverines recovered at the Dolphins 18. After a 5-yard penalty against Aliso Niguel (4-1), Greg Azaula scored on a 23-yard run with two minutes left as Aliso Niguel cut the deficit to 24-14.

Aliso Niguel attempted an onside kick but Dana Hills made the recovery. But three plays later, Yoon recovered another fumble and returned it 44 yards for a score with 1:17 left. The extra point made it a 24-21 ballgame.
"We had a chance," Aliso Niguel coach Jeff Veeder said. "The difference in the game was Grant Schwartz."

Schwartz was at his best late in the first half, throwing a 15-yard touchdown pass with four seconds left to Ricky Carroll. The pass capped a 74-yard scoring drive in the final 1:30 of the second quarter and answered an 81-yard touchdown pass from Aliso Niguel quarterback Tyler Zanoli to Aaron Long. Aliso Niguel's score gave the Wolverines a short-lived 7-3 lead.

Schwartz rushed for 128 yards and a touchdown on 20 carries and also passed for 146 yards and a score.

"We had their receivers covered," Veeder said, "but he (Schwartz) has the ability to scramble around and stay alive."

Dana Hills is one of county teams close to cracking the top-10 rankings and Gonzalez thought his team made a statement Friday.

"We controlled the football," he said. "We gave them one score in the second quarter and that was it. Our defense played pretty well. ... We're 4-1 and they're (Aliso Niguel) a good football team."

Dana Hills had a 17-play, 8:01 scoring drive in the first half. Connor St. Clair capped the drive with a 25-yard field goal that gave the Dolphins a 3-0 lead early in the second quarter.
