WR Grant Schwartz (official thread)

Duane has posted that if the offer is true, it is ridiculous because tOSU already has too many safeties. He has not been high on Schwartz, apparently because of his lack of big time offers. Read into that what you will.

And who cares what Duane Long says?

Too many safeties? Has Duane not been following JT's recruiting these last 5 years? What most people call "safeties", JT considers part of his "speed" group, as safety-types are the kind of versatile players that can transition to LB, CB, RB... QB?

Duane's just mad because he got scooped by a bunch of "fans"....

Anyway, as others have mentioned, safeties tend to be versatile athletes who can often play several positions (CB, RB, WR, even QB in Grant's case), and "grow into" others (OLB). Also, with the prevalence of "spread" offenses, teams need to be heavy in DB's. For much of the year, OSU's defense has played 3 DL, 3 LB, 5 DB, and I don't see changing much in the future against passing teams.

EDIT: I think that Grant Schwartz could be a Cie Grant type of player (remember, Cie was also a high school QB).

Grant Schwartz could play five different positions! I don't know why the dislike for this offer by Duane:( Mark it down Duane is going to eat his words on this one. Grant will be the sleeper in this class:wink2: Also mark it down that Pete will be in Grant 's living room within 30 days telling him he is their number #1 guy.

Can't wait until the petey trip comes, and gets him nowhere. So is grant on cloud 99 by now? :) Don't worry about Duane, I would refer to LJB's post. Most are very happy to have grant, including bucksfan47 who admitted being wrong over there. Duane thinks there are too many good safeties next year so we should pass on Grant this year, even if Myron Rolle wanted to come here.

Hope he's ready for the Dustin Fox comparisons :)

Good point here LJB - as was mentioend in the scUM/scUM lite game last week, at least 5 teams ing the Big11 including tOSU have gone to the spread offense now at least in some capacity. I agree, I don't see that changing, I actually see it increasing. Same reason JT recruited/offered Moeller.

Congrats Grant and Brian. This is a great day for Buckeye Football. I wouldn't consider Grant a sleeper by any stretch, I would consider him a huge get. He's a Buckeye at heart and that is worth more than any attribute. Every rep in the weight room, every hit on the field will be for the scarlet and grey- not just for a ticket to the NFL.
