WR James Louis (transfer to FIU)

He seems like a great talent, and looks like he'd be a big contributor to the Bucks in the future, but if it's not for him then so be it. I'd prefer he not end up at Florida, only because it seems like people are choosing it because it's the hot thing to do right now, but he needs to go to the best place for him. He's a Florida kid, and Ohio State is really the only northern school he's been considering. That can be pretty imposing, especially to a 17 year old. College is already a huge transition in life, let alone doing it far from your comfort zone.

There are some cases where I think a kid is just buying into the hype (like how a lot of people feel about Floyd, etc) but in this case I really do feel like he's just trying to find a place he'll be the most comfortable. Best of luck to him. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that we're his choice, but as we all know Jim would tell him, he's gotta do what's best for him.

If Louis would just come out and say that, I don't think there would be any issues...

I agree. Every report I have heard in the past few months has been him confirming his committment to the Buckeyes. Then the rumors start again, then he re-confirms that he is still a solid OSU verbal, then he's taking more visits, nows he's a soft verbal. So when is he switching over to UF? NLOI day so the coaches don't have time to get someone else?

It only a matter of time before the perception so many of you are putting out there becomes reality.

I won't ever understand the constant questioning of a commits commitment who has been firmly committed.

So, do you question when a recruit point blank says "I wasnt at Florida this weekend" when he was?

Does your perception of firm commits include taking visits to other schools?

There are many firm commits to OSU in this class that no one is questionng. It is the ones who are still looking around, visting other schools, and labeled by some insiders as 50/50 to enroll at OSU that we are talking about.

I hope these distinctions help you to understand.

Ever since the ups and downs of TP's recruiting, these types of commit/decommit/soft verbal/solid verbal situations have stopped worrying me. There are only a handful of sureshot stars every year and such things hardly change a program's direction in the long run. For example, how many of us saw the Lamaar Thomas situation coming during his recruiting days?

Besides, these kids have too many things of their own to worry about. You can hardly fault a kid for being affected by the amount of attention he gets or being swayed by "small" things.

I can only wish the best for James and hope that he signs with us on NLOID. If not, best of luck to him wherever he chooses to go to.

It can.

Sometimes seeing other options can help affirm a decision you've already made. That's exactly why Tressel encourages kids to take other visits.

...Not that I think that's the case here, even if Louis does end up a Buckeye.

Of course....but it is that distinction that you also acknowledge in your last thought that appears to be lost on Outstanding..and has us all talking.

Of course I would prefer he stick with OSU..but to call folks out for discussing a recruit that previously tried to verbal to a different school...then committed to OSU without visiting..and then just a couple of weeks before signing day ends up back at his original favorite, denies the visit..and schedules two others....I don't think that is posters putting an attitude out there that will cause the previously firm Louis to change his mind. He is obviously looking around...so we are talking about him.

And our talk won't be what causes him to change his mind if he does end up elsewhere.

If anything all the talk among OSU fans shows we are concerned as we hope he ends up in Columbus.

I'm going to jump in for a second after reading the most recent PM we received...

The BPRT got some info that cleared up a little bit about what is going on with Louis...I don't know that everyone needs to be as concerned as they are right now, but only time will tell. Either way, we need to remember that these are 17-18 year old kids thrust into the spotlight and sometimes they don't always know the best way to handle a high profile decision like the one they are about to make. These kids don't go through a media/PR course before becoming the stuff of Internet lore. Suffice it to say that it seems like from what we've heard that James is aware of the fact that he didn't handle the visit to Florida in the best manner (as it pertains to the OSU staff and the media) and he definitely does not want the OSU staff to drop him as some (none on this board because you would get run right out of here) have suggested. He is a young kid torn between two great institutions and coaching staffs and in the end he has to make the decision that is best for him...just like Bradley Roby did (and spare me the "Roby's situation was different because he didn't get an offer from OSU until recently" drivel...the fact is OSU has on a number of occasions continued to recruit committed players...and anyone who thinks otherwise doesn't know what they are talking about).

And jlb is right...JT and his staff want kids that want to be Buckeyes...look at the most recent update on Trey DePriest...where it was mentioned that Fickell is encouraging him to take his time and go through the process to find the right school. That kind of "soft sell" approach is what this staff is all about. They leave the used car salesman antics to Lane and Ed.
