WR Roy Hall (Official Thread)

Can someone expand on what role that was for us that didn't follow those kind of details back then? What was Irizarry's role going to be? More of a spread formation TE?

he was not going to be so much of a blocking TE on the strong side as much as a TE that could split out and cause matchup problems as he was too fast for lb's but a bit too big for db's to handle.

hall needs about another 15lbs or so to fill that role.

Hall was listed at 6'3", 228 before the start of last season. If you've seen him on the sidelines, he looks even bigger in a good way. Irizarry was about 6'5", 235, IIRC, so Hall was already built as big proportionately as Irizarry was, and is probably bigger (aside from height) now.

WR Roy Hall`

Said he'll line up wide, in the slot and play a little TE. Plans on "using [his] 235" this year. Said he's fine "doing the dirty work and using his muscle."

When asked who of the Freshman he's been impressed with, he singled out Malcom Jenkins. Said MJ got two picks in the AM session today.

Hall's got two years to prove himself for the pros, and at that size he could be an attractive draft pick if he can make some strides.

There is a reason they let Jenkins have #2. As I mentioned in his thread, Doss wore that, and then EJ Underwood (who they felt would be the next great corner). Combine his skills with what we've seen out of Amos and O'Neal, and its truly incredible how well this staff recruits DBs.

Hard to believe he has two years left - seems like he has been here forever. How many great players have not made a statement until their Junior or RS Junior season?

The thought of an empty backfield with Hall at TE has to keep DCs up at night.

Drew Carter. That empty backfield will be even more dangerous with Smith at QB.

After watching MJ tear Nyan Boeteng up in the Governors Bowl I knew he was gonna be special. I'm not suprised one bit that this kid is doing awesome. Hes better in coverage than Amos but not as physical. Give this kid a year to put on some muscle and hes gonna be awesome. The defensive backfield might be better next year if Youbooty stays. We have some serious talent in our secondary.

Hall had too high of expectations due to his size, and unfair early comparisons to David Boston. I would guess Bucknuts and/or other recruiting sites also hyped him up. He was able to get on the field sooner due to his physique, but he may be a late bloomer like others before him.
