i'm with you. i haven't heard that from anyone and i watch every game with a few hundred fans every week here in NYC.

did they really boo him on saturday? my guess is that they were booing the fact that the offense didn't score a TD. that isn't neccessarily aimed only at TP. the whole offense should be pretty pissed off about that performance.



can you copy some of those posts over? i want to know what their beef is.

IMO, he's talented as hell. he waits too long sometimes, but big whoop. he'll learn. he missed a few receivers on saturday, but maybe it was just a bad game. what's important to me is that he is winning. i wonder if its occured to the haters that some people are winners and some aren't. after seeing what he did in wisconsin, TP is obviously a winner and that's what you can't teach. he's only going to get better.

The boos were more directed at the inefficiency of the offense than TP. So the boos were directed at everyone who had anything to do with the offense. The complaints I was hearing in the stands were "Our offense is awful." Definitely not "Our QB is awful, let's get someone else in there."

I don't think I heard anything about TP, aside from when he missed a wide open Hartline. But they forget about that because shit happens.

I haven't heard the boos toward Pryor.. he's still the big man on campus. Not a day has gone by that I haven't heard multiple (good/optimistic) conversations about him.

Please don't copy a bunch of ranting posts about Pryor from the other message boards. If posters here want to see those posts and have those conversations, then please go there. We don't allow player bashing here and posts like that won't last minutes before being removed from the football forum.

Let's face it. There's a reason why people dislike Ohio State. It's fans like that. They are the people who claim to be OSU fans but boo our players from the stands. They are the ones who make posts such as those discussed recently in this thread. They wear scarlet and gray and scream from the rooftops so long as the Buckeyes win and whine and moan when they don't.

Those kind of fans don't last very long on BP. We don't allow player bashing--critical discussion of play, yes, vented frustration and player bashing, no. It's not too long before they cannot control themselves.

Let's discuss one of the most exciting young prospects in all of college football in this thread, not what those "fans" have to say about him.

2. Ah, come on. Tight End Jake Ballard is quoted as saying that Boeckman should start. "He could hit some deep balls for us."

I disagree. I sat in the stands at Ross - Ayde last year and watched four "deep balls" turn into turnovers. Boeckman made that rep on one throw, to a wide open Robinski, against Washington. That play wasn't there for the last half of 07 and hasn't been there this year, especially once we stopped playing division II teams. Further, if the line can't get the running game going and can't hold the pocket long enough for a drop back passer like Todd to throw, how is that going to improve things?

3. Preditability of our offensive plays was mentioned. Was Woody predictable? The fact remains that if your O line does its job it doesn't matter if the defense knows what you're going to do when you're playing teams with less talent than you have.

4. The same article claims that Tressel has assumed partial coaching of the offensive line. About time.

5. You're only going to get 3 years out of a talent like Pryor. Be glad it's not the NBA he's headed to. You may get burned as he learns, but I'd rather suffer the pain during his freshman year than during his sophomore year. The kid evidently looked at the NFL and saw zero spread offenses and decided to go where he'd get the best chance to develope into an NFL talent. I'm very content to watch that happen, I just hope he gets an O line that allows him to show what he can do.

If that comment is directed towards me, then I apologize for creating any type of stir within this forum. My intent was not to "bash" or degrade anyone on this forum or anyone on the OSU roster. It was criticism, not demoralization. I didn't curse, swear, throw out obecenities, etc. I didn't believe that I had broken any rules at the time I posted it, but I had a conversation with BidDaddyBuck about it in PM and it's cleared up. I just ask that you don't stereotype me as some mis-informed OSU bandwagon fan who loves the team when they are great and "bashes" them when they are down. I'm an educated fan who knows a little about football, just as all of you are. That's why I really enjoy this website.

Sorry for that rant, back to Pryor.......the time has come that Jim Tressel has to open the playbook a little bit and start getting creative. He must allow Pryor opportunities to stretch the field by throwing the ball down field, and in turn, Pryor has to have enough confidence to do the same. I really like that Pryor is trying to play mistake-free football, but he has to allow the offense to expand within the game by taking some chances and whipping it in there. The injuries along the o-line will continue to hinder this offense. Our athletes are not neccesarilly better than their athletes at this point in time. That must be neutralized by innovative offensive design and play calling......as well as execution.

Brett Favre, one of the greatest QBs of all time...a man who has done little else in his life not related to eating, sleeping and breathing football switched teams and offensive playbooks this season. I'm not sure what portion of the Jets playbook he has down at this point in the season, but early on he basically told his coaches not to throw a bunch of stuff at him that he wasn't use to. He wanted a dozen or so plays that he was comfortable with and didn't have to think too hard about to execute....uncertainty while running a play will often lead to mistakes.

My point is, if Terrelle doesn't know certain plays like the back of his hand, then he will not be as fast and effective in running them, and he will likely make mistakes trying to do something he's uncomfortable with during the game.

If Brett Favre doesn't want to simply "open up a playbook" that he hasn't mastered, then I'm sure Terrelle doesn't want a bunch of extra stuff thrown at him that he's unsure of...and I'm positive the coaching staff doesn't want to do that to him.

Im excited...

What is amazing that TP is already trying to be a perfectionist, he is trying hard not to make mistakes that in general "rookies" do. He is an amazing athlete and he will b an excellent passer and runner, I think he will make Troy look like a memory with his ability, and Troy was amazing at dodging the sacks and making something out of nothing. TP is making less mistakes then Tsmith did in his first few years. Im excited about the future of out team!!!

This has been my thought for a while, and not just in regards to TP, but the team as a whole. We need to learn to execute a handful of plays perfectly before we can open up the playbook. This offense has no identity. Let TP and this offense get really good at a set number of plays and then create wrinkles within them. Right now, too many guys are missing assignments and look confused at times.

I understand the concept of what you guys are saying regarding the simplification of the offense. No one wants the offensive players to be confused by their own system, Jim Tressel would never allow that to happen.

I'm not advocating changing our offensive philosphy in any way (like running a full blown zone-read option offense with 3 different check downs at the line of scrimmage). The fact is, our offensive line is not strong at the moment. Their injuries are effecting the ability of Terrell Pryor, Beanie Wells, and everyone else lined up behind them. Cordle, Browning, Person, and Rehring are being shuffled around on a weekly basis to fill the gaps the injuries have created.

A creative offense helps to neutralize weaknesses, even at the offensive line position. Small things such as quick slants, bubble screens, draws, delays, motion, alternating the snap count, etc. Small wrinkles in the system that will force a defense to think harder than it anticipated, thus delaying their reaction time, even if it's just for a half a second. These wrinkles need to be implemented this week if we want to survive the rest of this season. Our offense has just been entirely too predicable up to this point.

Mark Dantonio is going to stack the box early in this game, play man-up on the outside and maybe sit 1 free safety in zone coverage over the top. MSU will blitz Pryor from every angle until he proves he can beat the spartans by throwing the ball. I expect Beanie Wells to struggle early in this game. The field needs to be stretched early in this game, even if the passes are incomplete. That doesn't matter, the threat of the deep ball must exist for this offense to score this weekend in East Lansing.

I think we will see some offensive spark this weekend. The issue has to be forced at this point. 3 field goals will not beat Michigan State and it will not beat Penn State.

On the list of things Terre lle Pryor failed to do last weekend against Purdue, direct an offensive touchdown was the most damning, commit a turnover the most praiseworthy, and morph into "LeTerrelle, Child Superstar" the most expected.
Pryor, the most heavily recruited high school player in the country just a few months ago, has had all of four starts at quarterback for Ohio State. No one has been moved to Frenchify his name, in the manner of LeBron James. But adversity is the template for all athletes. Saturday at Michigan State, Pryor will begin to reveal just what is the real standard for comparison with him.
Will he become the new Vince Young?
Will he become the next Stanley Jackson - the OSU quarterback of a decade ago under coach John Cooper - who never met a broken play he didn't think he could save or a turnover he would not commit trying to do just that?
Or will he become a Fantasy League version of former Ohio State Heisman Trophy winner Troy Smith?
As a fifth-year senior, Smith was great at keeping plays alive and making throws. But Pryor will be headed for the NFL after three years. That "making throws" concept is a big puzzle for him now.

Perhaps facing another ranked opponent on their field will force Pryor to make some decisions quicker because he knows that MSU is much better and he will have to drive the offense down the field.

After predicting that Pryor would break out stat wise the last two weeks, I realized I was being impatient and now I'm just going to wait and see when he breaks out. It will happen, but it seems trying to predict when it will happen is going to be somewhat pointless.

I'm just hoping to see him get a win and develop further and score 1 or 2 TDs. Something to get his confidence going into the PSU game where he will have to play very very well.

Christ Bucks fans have gotten spoiled! A handful still have their perspective.

Can you imagine what people would be saying had we lost the last game or two?!

Remember folks, we are still winning football games.

I too want to see Terrelle just bust loose and decimate the defense, you can certainly see the potential there for it, but I want to see us win more than anything. Whatever keeps us doing that.
