WR Terrelle Pryor ('10 Rose, '11 Sugar MVP)

If there is any truth to the story that one of the reason Pryor chose OSU over the likes of Michigan is because he wants to be a quarterback and not a running back who throws - and I think there is truth to it - then I'm fairly confident that Pryor won't be declaring to the NFL until he's ready. That may be after year 3... I don't know... But, as others have said - as much as we love the mobile QB in college - that QB doesn't translate to the NFL. Pryor needs to be a QB who can run (Steve Young, John Elway) not a running back who can throw... even one with crazy skills. Thus, while Pryor's a quick study and talented guy, I wouldn't be so quick to assume he's gone after 3.

You could be right, but if he's anywhere near as talented as those of us here think he is, there's plenty of reasons to think he'll be gone after 3 seasons.

I agree. Pryor is still a long way from being a NFL style pocket passer. This year he was getting his feet wet and the coaches were not putting him in the situation to throw the ball as much. Hopefully next year he can get 20-25 attempts a game to develop his passing game.

Great points. I would argue that he probably will leave after 3 if indeed he has the success that he is on pace for. I do agree with you that he will take a while to become an NFL ready QB, but it always seems like by late in the junior year some of these uber talented players start to get that NFL itch. Their learning curve catches up with their natural talents, and they start to dominate the collegiate level. I think at that point a lot of them want a new challenge. TP strikes me as that type of athlete. Hell, maybe I'll be wrong, I hope that I am, I just don't see him being a 4 year type of player. Mind you, I will be very happy watching him play the next 2 years (and one bowl game) as a Buckeye. If he would stick around for a 4th he has the potential to go down as one of the best to ever play at OSU. I know that is a long way out, and a lot of things can (and probably will) happen. He just has that Lebron James/Vince Young type ability to get everyone around him to play better, and I can see him leading the Bucks to a title.

For sure... I don't want to be understood as saying Pryor won't leave after his junior year... I'm just saying there's no compelling reason as of now to just assume that'll be the case.

As you, daddyphatsacs, mention - he has that rare ability you see in certain players (ie Lebron) But... he also seems to have something else that I don't see people talking about right now. I'm not sure how to phrase it myself, but it's something you can understand about him having watched his recruitment. He's ... how to say this... OK... it's clear he will want to take, and will get, a shot at the NFL. I'm just not sure how big a hurry he is to get there. Kind of like Jenkins, Lil Animal, Boone.. is what I'm talking about. Pryor is one of the few super recruits who strikes me as perfectly willing to chill out and not be in too big a hurry to "grow up" (not that he's immature, just saying football as a job is different than football as the game you love - ask Ted Ginn Jr.)

I'm probably not articulating my point real well. I'm just trying to say there's more to the equation than plain talent, and there is evidence out there to suggest even if he was ready after his Junior year, maybe he's not in a hurry.

That said, I thought Greg Oden shared this personality quality and he declared anyway. Even though I was fairly sure he'd be 1 and done, I must confess I was holding out the slimest of hope that he'd come back for another year (even though he was "ready") and from what I gather in retrospect, he did give serious thought to playing at OSU for one more season before opting for the NBA. I certainly don't blame Oden for doing so, and I wouldn't hold it against Pryor either if he goes to the NFL after his Jr. season.

My guess is that he'll make substantial enough progress in the next two years to be a very high draft pick and can/will then be coached-up from there by the organization lucky enough to get him. He may not be all the way there after three, but he'll be close enough that he can't not be drafted really high and, therefore, can't not go. He's shown he wants to be thrown into the deep end and he'll want to try the pros after three.

OHIO STATE FOOTBALL
Pryor to now

A year in the life of Terrelle Pryor, who was the most hyped football recruit in the country a year ago and will be the starter at quarterback for Ohio State in the Fiesta Bowl in 12 days
Wednesday, December 24, 2008 Doug Lesmerises
Plain Dealer Reporter

COLUMBUS -- He went from delaying his college choice to Ohio State's first freshman starting quarterback in 30 years, from the most hyped football recruit in the country to Jim Tressel's pet project.
Whatever Terrelle Pryor does for the rest of his football career, 2008 set it all up. He's the present and the future.
Here's how 2008 happened -- from Jan. 5, 2008 to Jan. 5, 2009 -- as he was introduced to the nation in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl, to making his first bowl game start next month in the Fiesta Bowl.

Jan. 5: At the U.S. Army All-American Bowl in San Antonio, Pryor proves his game translates against the nation's best high school players, rushing for 79 yards, passing for 76 and scoring two touchdowns. He also points to a Buckeye leaf sticker he said was slapped on his helmet by fellow recruit DeVier Posey, sending OSU fans into a frenzy. That frenzy will become very familiar.
Jan. 16: Roy Hall, Pryor's high school quarterbacks coach at Jeannette High in Pennsylvania, says in a Plain Dealer story that "If a coach doesn't build his offense around Terrelle Pryor, he's crazy. Whoever gets Terrelle Pryor, it's like hitting the lottery." Does Jim Tressel really seem like a lottery ticket kind of guy?
Jan. 19: Pryor makes his second and final official visit of the recruiting process, following a fall stop at Ohio State, by hanging out with new coach Rich Rodriguez at Michigan. This proves to be only one more tease in a tortuous year for Rodriguez.
Feb. 6: In the gym at Jeannette High, with 60 media members waiting for his announcement, Pryor turns National Signing Day into National Non-Signing Day. His only announcement is that his father is in love with Penn State and Pryor is delaying his announcement to think some more. Watching a teenager declare he's declaring nothing is not a high point in sports journalism reporting.

Pretty good..

He went to the game with a Michigan sweatshirt on. The Buckeye sticker was placed on his helmet without his knowledge. It was placed on his helmet by a player already committed to Ohio State. I believe the sweatshirt says something. The sticker is meaningless.

[sarcasm]But was it green or black?[/sarcasm]

I found this over at the si fannation.
Texas wanted Terrelle Pryor to be the next Vince Young, the quarterback to whom he is most often compared. Instead Pryor eventually chose Ohio State on March 19, six weeks after national football letter of intent signing began. Pryor delayed his decision in part because of divided attention due to basketball. He ultimately chose between Ohio State and Michigan, with Penn State and Oregon as the other finalists. "There is no doubt Ohio State will win a national championship with Terrelle before he leaves," predicted Texas coach Mack Brown, whose team must defend against Pryor in Monday's Fiesta Bowl. "Vince redshirted, so it's a little bit different," Brown said. "Terrelle may be further along right now than Vince. Vince could run, but I'm not sure we were at 63 percent completions (until his junior season). Both are great players. He'll do for them what Vince did for us."

he is something special! He is going to play games like Ryan Perriloux did with Texas. Not quite as hyped as Pryor, or maybe even as good. He is going to go where he will get that royal treatment! The kid is playing the game! Anyone that gets him will be lucky, if he pans out!

I didn't know Perriloux played @ Texas? lol
