I was hoping to see some sort of growth out of Terrelle Pryor as a player since he left the Buckeyes, and quite frankly, I didn't see one iota. I was hoping to see better decision making, more zip on his passes, better ability to read defenses and make quick decisions, and I just didn't see any of that; tonight at least. He's still got time, but it I felt like I was watching Terrelle play for the Buckeyes in a black and grey uniform.

Narrowly speaking, if Troy Smith couldn't cut it in the NFL, Terrelle Pryor has no chance.

He can develop but you have to wonder if the team and the fans will stay patient. Tim Tebow was, according to all the media outlets, drafted to sit behind Orton for at least 3-4 seasons and learn the ropes. Then everyone was calling for his head the next year. It would have been ideal for Pryor to go to a team with a better qb and actually get to learn behind him.

I agree with the most here that says TP needs to grow and the time for that is quickly running out.

He, unfortunetly, was put into a team that has no clue how to develop a collegiate QB to fit the NFL. They take a QB and force them to learn the system and plays they want to run. TP is a helluva an athlete and has all the tools. He needs someone that can get in his head and go to work. Someone that can mentally prepare him for gameplay.

Quick, someone get this guy a mentor!

Poe I'm not sure how you were expecting much growth out of him in the first preseason game in any of those. maybe mechanics but he got literally zero time last year toplay against NFL defenses in any meaningful form plus add a year of rust to the picture. he showed flashed he showed dumb decisions that's normal. Let's see if he progresses throughout the preseason.

There were two just terrible passes. One on a short crossing rout that landed at the receivers feet. The other was so far under thrown, that the receiver had to come back for the ball causing pass interference on the defender. These are the same things he was doing as a freshman. Yes this is his first game against NFL defenses, but throwing the ball to a receiver running a simple crossing pattern is something he can work on during practice or with a coach in the offseason.

I can't comment on his decision making since I can not see the whole field on TV and know if he is missing open receivers.

Raiders third-string quarterback Terrelle Pryor saved the worst for last Monday night, his first real football action in almost two years.

With the Raiders trailing 3-0 and down to their last two plays, Pryor had plenty of time but underthrew Brandon Carswell by 5 yards. On the next play, Pryor lofted a floater deep, and it was easily intercepted by the Cowboys' Mana Silva.

"I'm angry at myself," Pryor said. "I thought everybody else on the team played great. I just think I played like dog crap. So I'm mad about that, about how I played. ... I will be better on Friday."

The Ohio State alum couldn't have set the bar much lower for the Raiders' next preseason game, at Arizona.

Pryor finished 8-for-15 for 50 yards, was sacked twice and ran six times for 21 yards. Worse, he didn't get the team out of huddles fast enough, and a lot of his throws lacked zip - something the coaches say is because of bad footwork.

Pryor is hard on himself, maybe a little too hard, as he didn't have a training camp last year for the Raiders because he was taken in the supplemental draft and then suspended by the NFL for five games.

"He has to realize that it's not going to happen overnight," No. 2 quarterback Matt Leinart said. "He can make plays, and he's working hard."

A pretty harsh self-assessment for Al Davis' last draft pick, no?

Pryor finished eight of 15 for 50 yards, with two sacks and an interception. His passer rating? An unsightly 32.6. He did, however, run for 21 yards on six carries.

"I was pleased he was able to get out there and get some reps and get some experience," said coach Dennis Allen. "Obviously, we have to do a little better job getting in and out of the huddle, and getting the play snapped a little bit sooner, but those are all things that can be corrected.

"He's a work in progress and just like I've always talked about, I want to see him get a little better every day."

Pryor's showed his erratic arm and his "sinker" was on display, as were his ankle-breaking moves.

In the end, though, they simply were not enough against the Cowboys. Even if Palmer thought Pryor had something to grow from in his outing.

"Just proud of the way he fought and fought and fought," Palmer said. "Things didn't go right, but he kept fighting.

"I'll be there for Terrelle, he knows that. But he’s a very confident guy, obviously very talented. He’s played quarterback for long enough to know you can’t show negative body language. He’s bummed mentally, but he’s a champ. He’s a professional, and for being so young, he’ll bounce back. I can’t wait to watch him play again next week."

The Raiders play at Arizona on Friday.

"I thought my progressions were a little better," Pryor said. "I think sometimes I had some good throws but also…my feet were messing up. I just played like dog crap, and I’m mad. I’m mad at myself. It’s my fault we lost, I’m mad about that too."
