And many of us much like ESPIN are jumping to conclusions. Is it at all possible that disclosing confidential information about a federal drug case could have gotten JT in legal jeopardy? Until you know the answer to this and a ton of other questions I think the guy has earned the benefit of the doubt.

Oh and I will never stop being a "homer." I hope that you will one day expereince the sheer joy of being a "homer."

great point.

The thing that I keep thinking about is that JT obviously knew that his players would be in trouble eventually. I mean he knew from these emails that an investigation was underway and once it was completed, the world would know if any of his players were involved. I don't know...to me, it doesn't appear that he is covering it up, just that he was respecting the legal process and letting it play out. In the meantime he said he talked with his players about who they associate with and the company they keep kind of thing.

I don't know...the emails don't look good, but he had to know that eventually all this would come out and in the meantime, he was trying to protect his kids.

Who knows...but I truly do believe that JT puts his players first...not to win football games, but because he cares about people. Just my humble opinion. But I heard an amazing story this last year about something JT did for a family who had lost their dad. I'm sure it never made news, but JT has a heart for people...that much is clear.

Go Bucks.

Can't see this just being a 2 game suspension. As is almost always the case, the coverup is worse than the crime. Really sad for JT and tOSU, but this just seems like folks covering up messes that would have impacted eligibility. I just can't see that as anything other than a huge offense...hence the major violation designation. I think ORD suggested a season earlier. Frankly, I think that would be fair. No one here wants to hear that, but honestly, a coverup like this just isn't right and then the defense that was posed yesterday only makes things worse as the "reasons" provided just don't add up.

Someone here yesterday stated that we don't handle things like the SEC or other conferences. After yesterday....not so much. And it feels like a bit of irony that Gene Smith suggested we don't handle things like some other schools or conferences because we move quickly. Well, he's right on that point....but if you handle things quickly and really poorly...then I can't see that as a positive.

Well, I think the argument will be that playing ineligible players is indeed a competitive advantage.

Yea, that is true, but I meant it in the sense of...we already had these guys on our roster. We didn't go out an pay players to come to OSU. Had noone got a free tattoo these guys would have still been suiting up. The school didn't pay them, didn't arrange for a booster to pay them, and these guys didn't come here for a free tat.

I suppose the NCAA could hit us for playing guys that should have been suspended for a few games but I still don't think it rises to the level of vacating wins. If the Gee and Smith thought it did I don't believe Tressel would still be our coach.

It's still astonishing that Cecil Newton can try to get paid some real money and everyone got off...yet there's an uproar in the media over tat-gate.

The sad thing is that those kind of things almost never make the news. Who outside of Buckeye nation knows that Woody helped break the color barrier in college football and was did a lot for charity. He visited troops in Vietnam, hosted study sessions for his players and made sure they were students first and football players second.

Yet if you do a google search all you get is the punch.

I think I have came to the conclusion screw the media, screw rest of the fans in America, and screw the NCAA.
Why in the hell isnt Mississippi St not in trouble for reporting the Newton issue earlier. No they waited a whole year after Cecil Newton Approached them, he decided not to come to MSU and then had success at Auburn untill they finally reported it.
Im in no means saying what JT did was right, but this happens all the time in college sports, but since we are tOSU they will put the hammer to us.
Still a big Tressel fan, he has done more for this community and the University off the field then on and he should be commended for it. This was a human error and it does not change how i look at him

Do you really think this is up there with the Newton thing, Alabama's near death experience and runaway Petes fiasco at USC?

There is still some question as to whether or not coach Tressel could have revealed what he knew without legal trouble. OSU self reported, punished the players involved AND punished the head coach.

You make it sound like we are an old southwest conference team.

Bottom line: we're doing what it takes to win. And cutting corners to get there. And the worst part isn't the cutting corners to win bit...it's the disingenous behavior once you're caught. As JWins said, I'd have been much happier if they all just stated emphatically that JT made a huge error in judgement and moved on...but they're still bobbing and weaving. Meanwhile, the emails paint the comments from the presser is a really bad light. Honestly, if you still want to claim high moral ground after this mess, be my guest, but I never will again.

Wow, take a step back and get some perspective.

JT says himself in the press conference that he had to get advice on how to proceed and that the was a FEDERAL DRUG TRAFFICKING CASE. Would you prefer that he put himself in legal jeopardy so you can maintain your moral high ground? The bad news its that coach Tressel is sitting in the Loretto PA federal penitentiary for obstruction of justice and interfering with an FBI investigation but on the bright side matcar still has the moral high ground and is feeling pretty good about himself today.

He did exactly the right thing. He reported it as soon as he felt safe in doing so and made sure his players were protected.

Piss on Yahoo Sports and piss on ESPiN!
The program will survive! It's a friggin' freight train running down the Big Ten tracks. I would not bet against us playing in the first Big Ten Championship game.
We are still that good!

Agree to disagree. There's no way I could feel he did the right thing. And even in their presser, Gee, Smith, and Tressel acknowledge that. Read the emails...it's clear you haven't. It paints a different picture.

I read the e-mails and still think he did exactly the right thing. What in these e-mails says anything that makes this look somehow worse? Please enlighten me because you really seem to be making some leaps of logic here.

If Tress did the right thing then we wouldn't be going through this mess right now. He is in the wrong and the school tried to give him a suspension and a fine, but I don't think that will be enough. Tress has given off an aura of being completely ethical and follows the rules for years, and now he has broken them and we will deal with them accordingly. But he was in the wrong.
Funny how if this was another team, like say Wisky, and we'd be all over their coach, but it's Tress and people are blindly defending him. Like holding informatoin about your players isn't wrong when they were doing things that would most definitely get the school sanctioned
