Youth Coaches and Players Pummel Ref

I am not surprised. Much of our society is totally bankrupt when it comes to dignity, class, manners and rules that apply to everyone else but me. I have coached a bajillion years and while not surprised I am disgusted.

While I am as passionate as any, more competitive than most, I get it. The human factor comes into play any time sports happen. Players make mistakes, coaches make mistakes, referees (bless their hearts-lol) make mistakes, parents and fans make mistakes. BUT rushing out on the field to pummel an official, player tackling an official is criminal. Courts should not me soft on this. If I were the players father, I would deal with this in a very profound and pointed response.

There is no excuse for that and even if and when the officials are dead wrong, they do not deserve to be assaulted.

Case in point: High School football game last weak. Opponents punt from their 7 yard line, we block the punt and it roll out of the end zone. The opponents are already lining up at the 20 to kick after a safety. The officials rule that this is a touchback and give the opponents the ball on their 20 and get a first and ten.

Needless to say we argued our point passionately, needless to say the last statement from us was "sir, you have misinterpreted this rule and incident."

This was a close game and could have ended badly for us, but we moved on and held them then returned the punt for a touchdown.

Ok they were dead wrong, Ok they made a mistake. But to assault them for a misinterpretation, for poor judgment would have been out of line and criminal.

While I, to some point, live and die football, it is JUST A GAME
.

I went to Ohio last month (two months?) to watch the finals for my niece's games. 90% of the people were awesome. It is amazing to have a parent ask you to babysit their kid when they don't even know you. I was the random uncle. People are better in Ohio.

But there was some tension. The things people yell. These were little girls. It was not cool. That other 10% need help.

My favorite though was this guy who yelled over everybody else. He yelled at the refs, but also yelled "multiball" when another ball came on the field and "berzerker time, three balls, thirty seconds" later. He defused everything.

Some of those people are crazy though.
