YouTube getting what it had coming

Yeah, I saw this on Slashdot earlier. A billion dollars, Google has to be happy with that investment now. Realistically though, who didn't see this coming? I would say 65% of the content on youtube is copyright protected, and if you take that 65% off would anyone actually go to the site?

I know. They deserve this for making that move.

Frankly, I'm surprised this action wasn't taken the first week YouTube went online.

Viacom's smart for waiting until a multi-billion dollar company acquired YouTube so maybe they can get a chunk of it.

So you already have them losing the suit?

I think it's a question of who's willing to pour more money into the cause, both are large companies and both have a lot of resources. If anything this looks more like an attempted strong-arm tactic by viacom to get some money from google due to the fact that theres a ton of their content on youtube.

No doubt. I doubt Google settles and will pitch their high priced lawyers vs Viacoms.

I think that Google will win its suit, but the defense won't be cheap. The winner in the end will be the Lawyers.
