YouTube getting what it had coming

No doubt. I doubt Google settles and will pitch their high priced lawyers vs Viacoms.

I think that Google will win its suit, but the defense won't be cheap. The winner in the end will be the Lawyers.

Hrm... well consider that Youtube and MTV (A Viacom company) made a deal a while back to allow MTV's videos on Youtube, I will be surprised if this actually ends up in court. Google's not gonna hand over a billion bux but I think something will get worked out.

I think it settles out of court. I just don't see how Google can win this.

I agree and Google knows if they go to court on this one and lose everyone will be standing behind viacom waiting for their day in court. The best bet is to settle and get some form of watermark on their videos + some settlement and go on with business.

Not a legal expert, but the USPS isn't liable for deaths by the unibomber.
Yea, but if the USPS had hundereds of thousands(#?) of these occurances, it would be different. Also, it is not as if USPS says you can send bombs, just as long as they don't hurt somebody. (Bad example, but you get my drift)

OK, then lets take the use of firearms in illicit activities. I am pretty sure if someone uses a smith and wesson to hold up a store (an everyday occurance) the store will not win a case against Smith and Wesson.

Becuse guns can be sold to anyone and their aren't stipulations on the use of them. There are very explicit rules regarding what you can do with this material.

i don't really see why this is a problem, even including pressure from the advertisers. say someone sees something on youtube from a show on a viacom channel, and likes it, and then starts tuning in regularly? hasn't that youtube exposure actually been a GOOD thing?

and another thing, if it's all about the advertisers, then i guess that TiVo and the DVR should come off the market because it allows me to record all the shows i want to watch and skip all the commercials.

it's retarded. uploading vids is free. is viacom go the way of the RIAA and start suing individuals who upload and view the content?

are the Ohio State football highlights that i've posted going to get me sued? my Ted Ginn highlight has 45,000+ views. i guess ABC and ESPN are going to be suing me soon...

what a load of crap.

Don't be surprised.

Could end up going the way of Napster, Kazaa, etc....

Guess they talked to HostGo, too...HostGo kept deleting all my football clips while leaving non-commercial stuff (soldiers blowing up the washing machine, etc.) intact.
